Hi, my name is Megan, and I never imagined I would be here asking for help like this.
This is my cat, Miso. She is my best friend, my shadow, and the quiet constant in my life through some of my hardest years. She slept next to me through breast cancer. She stayed curled against me through my divorce. She sits on my desk while I work and on my lap when I finally stop. She is my emotional support in the truest sense — not by training, but by love.
Miso just turned two years old on February 3. She is otherwise a perfectly healthy kitty. She is pure entertainment in our home — greeting every single person who walks through the door, loving absolutely everyone, and truly never having met a stranger. People don’t just like her, they fall in love with her. Every veterinarian she’s ever seen has been completely smitten, and anyone who has met her knows how unbelievably sweet she is. She is full of personality, affection, and life. She deserves a future.
Over the last year, Miso has suffered multiple rectal prolapses — three, four… honestly, I’ve lost count. Each emergency visit has cost between $900–$1,200, and each time we hoped it would be the last. It wasn’t.
This week, after her fifth or sixth prolapse, I was told she needs a rectopexy — a surgical procedure that permanently secures her bowel to prevent future prolapse. Without it, this cycle will continue — painfully and dangerously — until there are no options left.
The original estimate for her surgery was $9,000. Even after exhausting CareCredit and every option I had, I simply cannot afford that. I reached a breaking point and even asked about surrendering her — knowing that with her condition, she would likely be euthanized. That moment shattered me.
And then something unbelievable happened.
The emergency veterinarian we saw offered to perform the surgery without charging for the specialist, cutting the cost nearly in half. Shortly after, an anonymous woman — a true guardian angel — stepped forward and offered to pay the entire remaining surgery and aftercare, on one condition:
That I reimburse $2,000, so she can continue saving other cats from euthanasia the way she saved Miso.
I have 14 days to come up with that $2,000.
While this amount is far more attainable than $9,000, it is still beyond my reach on my own. I am a single parent, navigating medical debt of my own, and doing everything I can to stay afloat.
I don’t expect anything. I know times are hard for everyone. But if you are able to help — even a few dollars — you are helping keep a deeply loved animal alive and giving me the chance to keep my best friend.
Miso is healthy otherwise. She will be spayed during surgery, is up to date on care, and has a long, happy life ahead of her if we can get her through this.
From the bottom of my heart — thank you for reading, sharing, donating, or simply holding us in your thoughts.
Megan & Miso
Note: Although the surgery cost is estimated at $2,000, the goal is set at $3,000 to help cover additional expenses such as travel, time off work, medications, and post-surgery comfort and care.
