Hello all, Dakota and Eric here. We have been humbled by life, and are asking for your help.
Those of you who know us best know our dogs are pretty much our children. It's wirh a heavy heart I say our sweet husky Miska suddenly lost use of her back legs today and has been diagnosed with IVDD. She needs emergency spinal surgery estimated at a minimum of $10,000, and we’re asking for your help to save her mobility.
Miska is more than just a dog to us – she is family. She is our goofy, loving husky, our shadow around the house, and our biggest little Lions fan in her jersey on game days. Anyone who has met her knows how gentle and friendly she is.
Earlier today, Miska went outside like she always does. Within moments we heard a loud yelp and rushed out to find her crawling on the ground, unable to use her back legs. Seeing her struggle and cry in pain was absolutely terrifying, and we immediately rushed her to the emergency vet.
After exams and imaging, the vet diagnosed her with IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease), a serious spinal condition that can cause sudden paralysis. The vet has told us that Miska needs emergency surgery as soon as possible to give her the best chance to walk again and to control her pain. Without surgery, her prognosis is poor and she will continue to suffer.
The estimate we’ve been given for her surgery, hospitalization, imaging, and recovery care is at least $10,000, and it could be more depending on what they find once they begin the procedure. This estimate includes:
• Emergency exam and imaging
• Spinal surgery for IVDD
• Hospitalization and pain management
• Medications, follow‑up visits, and rehabilitation
We were not prepared for a bill of this size and, as much as it hurts to admit, we simply cannot afford this life‑saving surgery on our own. Miska still has so much life and love left in her, and giving up on her because of money is heartbreaking.
This is why we are asking for help.
If you are able, please consider donating any amount toward Miska’s surgery fund. Every single dollar makes a difference and brings us closer to getting her the care she urgently needs. If you can’t donate, sharing this fundraiser with your friends, family, and social media means the world to us too.
We will keep this page updated with:
• Surgery date and progress
• Photos and updates from her hospital stay
• Her recovery and rehab milestones
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading Miska’s story, for donating if you can, and for sharing. Your kindness is giving our girl a chance to walk, play, and be her happy, stubborn husky self again.
With love and gratitude,
Eric and Kota
