Help Mirna Balakumar Fight for Her Life
On April 12th, 2025, around 7 PM, Mirna Balakumar — a student at Indiana Wesleyan University — was tragically struck by a speeding vehicle while crossing the intersection of 17th Avenue and Manchester Expressway in Columbus, Georgia. The driver fled the scene and the case remains under investigation.
Mirna was rushed to the ER without a pulse and with life-threatening injuries: severe abdominal trauma, extensive liver and spleen damage, and multiple broken ribs. She remains in critical condition in the ICU, on life support, undergoing multiple surgeries to stabilize her.
Mirna is more than a student. She is a devoted wife and mother to a 13-year-old daughter. She left her loving family, came to the U.S. from Salem, Tamil Nadu, India with dreams of completing her Master’s degree — she was so close to graduating.
After a long painful wait of 10 days, Mirna’s husband was able to secure an emergency visa to be by her side in the hospital. Mirna draws strength from her husband's presence, and having her daughter and brother close would mean the world to her as she fights for recovery.
We are asking for your support to help cover:
• Emergency travel, visa, and living expenses for her family
• Rehabilitation and long-term recovery costs
• Educational debts
Mirna’s strength and determination brought her this far. Now, she needs all of us.
Any contribution, no matter how small, will bring hope and relief to her family during this unimaginable time.
Please share, donate, and keep Mirna in your prayers.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
