On Tuesday, January 7th, the Eaton Canyon fire erupted and changed life for many families, including Mireyah and the boys. Mireyah left her house and packed for a couple of nights, thinking they would return home in a few days. Early that next morning, she found out her neighbors had been evacuated in the middle of the night, and the school directly across from her home was on fire, not to mention many homes of their friends and neighbors were already gone. She didn’t know if her home would make it- the only home her boys had known. On Thursday morning, she found out her home miraculously made it when a friend saw it on the news. Many structures around her home did not make it but it was a huge relief that theirs did.
While their home stands, a fire of this magnitude has caused a lot of damage and has made their home uninhabitable. This is all new- dealing with insurance, not being able to return to their home, coming to the realization that most of their items in their home will not be safe to use again and most importantly figuring out where they will live until their home and community are safe to return to. The air quality in their city is toxic, the water is not safe to use and all of this will take time to return to normal. While Mireyah and the boys have been between several Airbnbs, they need additional financial support as they carefully navigate the decision as to whether returning to their home right after the work of the remediation process is their best option.
Above all, Mireyah’s primary concern is the safety of her children. Any help to ensure their financial stability during this time would be of immense support. We understand that many are facing hardships right now and are deeply grateful for any support, love, or kindness you can offer during this incredibly difficult time.
