Hello animal lovers and kind supporters! I’m Shannon Miranda, the founder of Miranda’s Rescue No-Kill Animal Sanctuary in Fortuna, California. This is our 31st year of rescuing and rehoming thousands of our furry friends, and our structures throughout our 38 acres are decades old.
We need new buildings, new kennels, and new fencing.
To be specific: a new rescue office, new cat building, new chicken coop, upgraded dog kennels, and stronger fencing.
Every year we rescue abandoned, abused, injured, and neglected animals - from kittens and puppies to dogs, cats, horses, reptiles, birds, livestock, and even exotic animals like alpacas, llamas, emus, and we even had a camel.
As a no-kill facility, we provide full veterinary care (spay/neuter, vaccines, emergency treatments), socialization, enrichment, and loving forever homes. We also run community programs while educating the public on responsible pet ownership to help end overpopulation and euthanasia. Our four thrift stores in Fortuna, Eureka, Arcata, and McKinleyville help cover some of the costs, but the growing number of animals in need - due to the housing crisis, economic hardship, and local shelter overflows - has pushed our current facilities to their limit. Volunteers, including family members, work tirelessly alongside staff to keep everything running. In order to continue helping more animals safely and humanely, we need to upgrade our current structures and expand now!
Our $100,000 Goal Breakdown - Every Dollar Goes Directly To The Support And Rescuing Of The Animals:
* $30,000 - New Dedicated Office Building And Admin Building
Our current office is small and outdated, slowing down adoptions, record-keeping, volunteer coordination, and daily operations. A larger, modern office will make everything run smoother so we can focus even more on caring for the animals.
* $20,000 - Brand New Indoor/Outdoor Cat Building And Sanctuary Expansion
Cats need calm, low-stress spaces to heal and thrive - especially kittens, seniors, and those recovering from illness or injury. This climate-controlled building will include secure runs, play and enrichment areas, isolation rooms for medical care, and space for 50+ more cats. It will improve health, reduce overcrowding, and let us save even more feline lives.
* $50,000 - Ongoing and Emergency Expenses
Vet bills, quality food, bedding, litter, medications, utilities, transport, and unexpected emergencies. These funds keep the sanctuary running smoothly during construction and ensure we never turn away an animal in danger.
We’ve created countless happy endings with regular adoptions and heartwarming stories shared on our Facebook and website. Without these upgrades, we’ll soon have to limit intakes - and that means turning away animals who have nowhere else to go.
Your support saves lives.
* $25 provides vaccines or a bag of food
* $50 helps fund a spay/neuter surgery
* $100 covers emergency vet care
* $500 helps us break ground on these life-changing buildings and upgrades.
Even if you can’t donate today, sharing this page with friends, family, and local groups makes a huge difference!
