I am Miranda, I'm a 47 year-old disabled social worker. I live in my vehicle after a venomous spider bite destroyed my health. I am unable to work, and I deal with multiple chronic health conditions that limit my ability to function and care for myself.

I have various health and disability needs that I have to pay out-of-pocket. Some examples include:

There are times with my health where I am not well enough to safely stay in my car. I either need to rent a hotel room for a few nights, or find a room for a few weeks.

I have out-of-pocket medication costs, and sometimes have co-pays for emergency room visits. I sometimes need to buy things like braces for an injured joint that aren't covered by insurance. I have travel expenses to doctors. Some of my specialists are a few hours away.

I have had several providers recommend I see a specific type of physical therapist that unfortunately is not covered by insurance, so I have not been going.

I have a gym membership because some of my physical therapy requires me to use equipment, but they only have appointments at the clinic every other week.

I also needed a wheelchair because I am very limited in my ability to walk, and it was interfering with my ability to function and take care of myself. With my multiple disabilities I needed a custom one. Unfortunately insurance will only cover a wheelchair for you to use in your home, and since I don't have a home, they wouldn't cover one for me.

I was able to use funds donated here to buy a wheelchair that has changed my life in an amazing way.

I do receive Social Security disability, but because it is based on my salary ad a social worker, which was never much, it is poverty level. I do have one sibling who has helped out tremendously over the years, but she has her own family and there's only so much that she can do.

I greatly appreciate any support. This has been a hard journey to ask for help but it has also shown me how much incredible kindness is out there in the world.
