Help disabled social worker living in her vehicle
Donation protected
Hello. I am Miranda and I live in my car because I am physically disabled.
I have increased my goal to help me raise money to be able to purchase a hybrid vehicle. I'm on a limited diet of cooked, pureed food, which I'm not able to do because I have such limited ability to cook food in my current vehicle. With my respiratory issues I can't use any liquid fuel, but with the hybrid I could use more wattage appliances to cook and pureed food.
I also have healthcare in multiple countries each week, and saving on the gas would be huge.
My current vehicle needs several repairs, which would be several thousand dollars.
I was recently approved for Social Security disability, but my income is below the poverty line, and I have a lot of out-of-pocket medical costs that I struggle with.
I am on the waitlist for a housing voucher but that is not going to happen anytime soon, and with my disabilities I'm not able to stay in a shelter.
It's important that I stay close to my doctors, I have several appointments each week, so I am restricted to this geographic area. It took me years to find doctors who are very knowledgeable about my conditions.
This all started in 2010 when I was bitten by a poisonous spider, a brown recluse. For a long time I was told I would need to have my leg amputated, and I was put on bedrest for over a year. Thankfully with a lot of hard work in physical therapy I was able to keep my leg, but I have dealt with neurological, cardiac, kidney and respiratory issues. I have worked really hard, but this point I can barely walk, and my main challenges are two neurological conditions and my lungs. In 2018 my health deteriorated to the point where I needed to quit my job as a social worker and could no longer work.
I have very little family left, and they have been amazing, but this has been going on for a while now, and there's only so much one person can do. They have things going on in their own life, and they don't live in an accessible home. We tried to make it work, but it just left me in worse shape.
Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
