Hope for Mira: Help Fund Her Bone Marrow Transplant

Mira Waseem Mustafa was born on April 6, 2015, in Fnaydeq, Akkar, one of the poorest regions in Lebanon—a country that has been struggling with numerous crises on various fronts. Her parents, Waseem and Fatima, faced significant health challenges that delayed the birth of their first child. After enduring lengthy treatments and procedures, Mira became the beacon of hope in their lives, not just as their daughter, but as a symbol of joy after a long period of hardship and despair.

Mira excelled in her studies, achieving an impressive grade average of over 18 out of 20. She was not only academically gifted but also remarkably aware of the world around her. She shared a special bond with her father, who couldn’t sleep without her by his side. However, this blissful life was tragically short-lived.

The Setback

On December 29, 2023, the first signs of trouble appeared—a severe nosebleed that wouldn’t stop. Mira was rushed to the hospital, where she underwent a series of exhaustive tests for 20 days. The results were devastating: Mira was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia, a rare condition where the body stops producing enough new blood cells. From that moment on, Mira and her family entered a relentless cycle of treatments, hospital visits, blood transfusions, and setbacks.

Her parents' lives were turned upside down as their happiness and well-being became entirely dependent on their daughter's condition. The stress was so overwhelming that her mother lost a pregnancy and suffered severe eye hemorrhaging that nearly blinded her.

The Only Hope

Today, Mira is partially recovering but still relies on regular medication and blood transfusions. The only solution to end her suffering is a stem cell transplant (bone marrow transplant), which would help rebuild her immune system and blood cells. Unfortunately, a tissue match could not be found within her family, leaving the only option to seek treatment abroad at a specialized hospital.

The Greatest Challenge

The family contacted the Ospedale Pediatrica Bambino Gesù in Italy, which agreed to perform the procedure. However, the shocking cost of the operation is €300,000—an amount far beyond what Mira’s family can afford. So far, they have already spent over $50,000 on treatments, with the support of their community, but now they need our help.

Saving Mira’s life requires raising €300,000. Her father has sold everything he could, yet they have only managed to gather €20,000—barely enough to cover travel expenses. ولدت ميرا وسيم مصطفى في 6 أبريل 2015 في بلدة فنيدق-عكار، واحدة من أكثر المناطق فقراً في لبنان، البلد الذي يعاني من أزمات متعددة على مختلف الأصعدة. تأخر والدها وسيم ووالدتها فاطمة في إنجاب طفلتهما الأولى بسبب مشاكل صحية، وبعد عمليات علاج طويلة، كانت ميرا هي الأمل الذي أضاء حياتهما. لم تكن مجرد ابنة، بل كانت رمزاً للفرح بعد فترة من التعب واليأس.

تميزت ميرا في دراستها، حيث تجاوز معدلها الدراسي 18 من 20، وأظهرت وعيًا مبكرًا بما يدور حولها. كانت قريبة جداً من والدها، الذي لم يكن ينام إلا وهي بجانبه. ولكن، هذه الحياة السعيدة لم تدم طويلاً.

الإنتكاسة

في 29 ديسمبر 2023، ظهرت أول علامات الخطر؛ نزيف حاد من أنف ميرا لم يتوقف. نقلت إلى المستشفى وخضعت لفحوصات مكثفة استمرت لمدة 20 يوماً. لتأتي النتيجة الصادمة: ميرا مصابة بمرض "فقر الدم اللاتنسجي"، وهو مرض نادر يتسبب في توقف الجسم عن إنتاج خلايا الدم الجديدة. منذ ذلك الحين، دخلت ميرا ووالديها في دوامة من العلاجات والفحوصات المستمرة، والتنقل بين المستشفيات ونقل الدم.

انقلبت حياة والدي ميرا رأساً على عقب، فأصبحت سعادتهما وصحتهما مرتبطة بحالة ابنتهما. حتى أن والدتها، من شدة الحزن، فقدت جنيناً وأصيبت بنزيف حاد كاد يفقدها بصرها.

الأمل الوحيد

اليوم، ميرا تتعافى جزئيًا، لكنها لا تزال تعتمد على الأدوية ونقل الدم بشكل دوري. الحل الوحيد لإنهاء معاناتها هو زراعة الخلايا الجذعية (نخاع العظم)، والتي ستعيد تكوين خلايا الدم والدفاع عن نفسها. لكن للأسف، لم يتطابق نسيج ميرا مع أفراد عائلتها، مما جعل الخيار الوحيد هو إجراء العملية في مستشفى متخصص بالخارج.

التحدي الأكبر

تم التواصل مع مستشفى Ospedale Pediatrica Bambino Gesu في إيطاليا، الذي وافق على إجراء العملية. لكن، كانت الصدمة الكبرى في تكلفة العملية التي تصل إلى 300 ألف يورو، مبلغ يفوق بكثير إمكانيات عائلة ميرا. حتى الآن، تكبدت العائلة تكاليف علاج تجاوزت 50 ألف دولار، والآن، جاء دورنا لنقف إلى جانبهم.

نداء للمساعدة
