Help ons dappere meisje Mira (16 maanden) naar een jeukvrij leven

Mira is 16 maanden oud en leeft dagelijks met ernstige Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW). Haar dagen en nachten worden beheerst door intense jeuk, open wonden, pijn en extreem slaaptekort. Na maanden zoeken naar gespecialiseerde hulp hebben wij een behandeltraject in Bali gevonden waarvan wij geloven dat het haar herstel kan ondersteunen en versnellen. Hiervoor moeten we als gezin 25 weken naar Bali reizen, met grote financiële en emotionele gevolgen. Met deze crowdfunding vragen wij om hulp om Mira de best mogelijke kans op herstel te geven. Wie is Mira?

Mira is pas 16 maanden oud.

Een leeftijd waarop kinderen leren lopen, spelen, lachen en de wereld ontdekken.

Maar voor ons dochtertje ziet het leven er heel anders uit.

Al maanden wordt haar leven beheerst door ondraaglijke jeuk, open wonden, pijn en slapeloze nachten.

Waar andere kinderen onbezorgd kunnen spelen, moeten wij Mira dag en nacht beschermen tegen het openkrabben van haar eigen huid. Vaak ligt haar gezichtje binnen enkele seconden weer open. De jeuk is zo intens dat ze er geen controle over heeft. Op deze leeftijd kun je haar niet uitleggen waarom ze niet mag krabben.

Wij zijn Jeroen en Denise, de ouders van Mira. We starten deze crowdfunding omdat we alles op alles willen zetten om haar een kans te geven op een beter en sneller herstel.

Wat is er gebeurd?

Mira had als baby eczeem. Toen ze ongeveer 11 maanden oud was, kreeg zij hormooncrème voorgeschreven om haar huidklachten onder controle te houden.

Na het stoppen van deze medicatie ontstond een ernstige reactie: TSW (Topical Steroid Withdrawal).

TSW is veel meer dan een gewone eczeemopvlamming. Het is een ontregeld herstelproces waarbij de huid, bloedvaten, het immuunsysteem en het zenuwstelsel zich opnieuw moeten herstellen en reguleren.

Het herstel verloopt vaak grillig en onvoorspelbaar. Goede dagen kunnen plotseling worden gevolgd door zware terugvallen. Voor veel mensen duurt dit proces maanden tot zelfs jaren.

Voor volwassenen is TSW al een slopend proces. Voor een baby van 16 maanden heeft het impact op vrijwel ieder aspect van haar leven.

De impact op haar leven

Mira slaapt geen enkele nacht door. Ze wordt iedere 20 tot 30 minuten wakker door de intense jeuk.

Ze draagt speciale beschermende kleding en moet een groot deel van de dag armspalkjes dragen om te voorkomen dat ze haar gezicht volledig openkrabt.

Waar andere kinderen van haar leeftijd vrij kunnen spelen, ontdekken en oefenen met lopen, wordt Mira dagelijks beperkt door haar klachten.

Het consultatiebureau ziet inmiddels dat haar ontwikkeling achterloopt. Door de aanhoudende jeuk en het ernstige slaaptekort zijn ook haar gewicht en groeicurve achteruitgegaan.

Als ouder voel je je machteloos wanneer je ziet hoeveel pijn je kind heeft en je haar niet kunt uitleggen waarom.

Waarom wij nu hulp vragen

Op basis van de ernst van Mira’s klachten wordt haar herstelproces momenteel ingeschat op ongeveer 2,5 jaar.

Wat haar herstel vooral tegenhoudt, is de vicieuze cirkel waarin zij al maanden vastzit:

* Extreme jeuk

* Krabben

* Open wonden

* Infecties

* Meer ontsteking

* Meer jeuk

Daardoor krijgt haar huid nooit lang genoeg de kans om echt te herstellen.

Juist daarom willen wij alles op alles zetten om deze vicieuze cirkel te doorbreken.

Waarom Bali?

In Bali bevindt zich een specialistisch behandelcentrum met ervaring in het begeleiden van mensen met TSW.

Daar heeft Mira toegang tot CAP-therapie (Cold Atmospheric Plasma), een behandeling die momenteel niet op dezelfde manier voor haar beschikbaar is in Nederland.

Voor dit traject moeten we ongeveer 25 weken naar Bali reizen. Dat is geen beslissing die we licht nemen.

Het betekent dat ons gezin tijdelijk uit elkaar wordt gehaald en dat we ons leven voor een half jaar moeten verplaatsen naar de andere kant van de wereld. Maar als ouders doe je alles om je kindje te helpen.

Wat is CAP-therapie?

CAP staat voor Cold Atmospheric Plasma.

Deze behandeling helpt bacteriën en schimmels op de huid terug te dringen en ondersteunt tegelijkertijd wondgenezing, huidvernieuwing, collageenaanmaak en herstel van de huidbarrière.

Wij geloven dat CAP de vicieuze cirkel van jeuk, open wonden en infecties kan helpen doorbreken. Voor Mira zou dat kunnen betekenen:

* Minder jeuk

* Minder krabben

* Minder open wonden

* Minder infecties

* Meer ruimte voor herstel

Wij zien CAP niet als een wondermiddel, maar als een hulpmiddel dat haar herstelproces kan ondersteunen en versnellen.

We kijken niet alleen naar de huid

Tegelijkertijd werken we aan de onderliggende factoren die kunnen bijdragen aan haar herstel.

We volgen momenteel een traject gericht op haar darmgezondheid en microbioom, waarbij we ondersteuning krijgen op het gebied van voeding en suppletie.

Wij geloven dat herstel vraagt om aandacht voor zowel de buitenkant als de binnenkant van haar lichaam.

Een veilige leefomgeving is essentieel

Omdat Mira momenteel vrijwel geen huidbarrière heeft, reageert haar huid extreem op schimmels, parfum, stof, schoonmaakmiddelen en andere prikkels.

Daarom hebben we tijdens dit traject één vaste, veilige en gecontroleerde leefomgeving nodig waarin haar huid zoveel mogelijk rust krijgt.

Dit is geen vakantie. Dit is een intensief zorg- en behandeltraject van zes maanden dat volledig in het teken staat van Mira’s herstel.

Als gezin tijdelijk gescheiden

Omdat Denise sinds Mira’s geboorte door de intensieve zorg vrijwel niet heeft kunnen werken, draagt Jeroen momenteel de financiële verantwoordelijkheid voor ons gezin.

Daardoor zal hij niet de volledige periode in Bali kunnen verblijven en regelmatig terug moeten reizen naar Nederland om te werken.

Voor een meisje van 16 maanden betekent dit dat zij haar vader maandenlang niet dagelijks zal zien.

Dat is voor ons als gezin emotioneel ontzettend zwaar, maar we doen dit omdat we geloven dat het haar de beste kans op herstel geeft.

Waar gaat jullie steun naartoe?

Wij zamelen €53.250 in voor:

• Reis- en medische logistiek

• Een veilige woonomgeving voor 25 weken

• CAP-behandelingen en medische begeleiding

• Medische hulpmiddelen en beschermende voorzieningen

• Luchtzuivering en waterfiltratie

• Specifieke voeding en dagelijkse zorgbehoeften

• Intensieve zorgondersteuning gedurende het behandeltraject

• Onvoorziene medische kosten en herstelondersteuning

Eventuele donaties boven het streefbedrag worden uitsluitend gebruikt voor Mira’s verdere zorg, medische kosten en hersteltraject.

Iedere euro wordt ingezet om Mira de best mogelijke kans op herstel, rust en kwaliteit van leven te geven.

Help Our Brave Little Girl Mira (16 Months Old) Have a Life Without Constant Itch

Mira is 16 months old and lives every day with severe Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW).Her days and nights are dominated by intense itching, open wounds, pain, and extreme sleep deprivation. After months of searching for specialized help, we found a treatment program in Bali that we believe can support and accelerate her recovery. Who Is Mira?

Mira is only 16 months old.

An age when children are learning to walk, play, laugh, and discover the world around them.

But life looks very different for our little girl.

For months, her life has been dominated by unbearable itching, open wounds, pain, and sleepless nights.

While other children can play without a care in the world, we spend our days and nights trying to protect Mira from scratching her own skin open. Often, her face can be covered in fresh wounds within seconds. The itching is so intense that she has no control over it. At this age, you cannot explain to a child why she should not scratch.

We are Jeroen and Denise, Mira’s parents. We started this fundraiser because we are willing to do everything we can to give our daughter a chance at a better and faster recovery.

What Happened?

As a baby, Mira suffered from eczema.

When she was around 11 months old, she was prescribed topical steroid creams to help control her skin symptoms.

After stopping these medications, she developed a severe reaction known as Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW).

TSW is much more than a typical eczema flare-up. It is a complex recovery process in which the skin, blood vessels, immune system, and nervous system must gradually heal and regulate themselves again.

Recovery is often unpredictable. Good days can suddenly be followed by severe setbacks. For many people, this process lasts months or even years.

TSW is already devastating for adults. For a 16-month-old child, it affects nearly every aspect of life.

The Impact on Her Life

Mira does not sleep through a single night.

She wakes up every 20 to 30 minutes due to the relentless itching.

She wears special protective clothing and often has to wear arm splints for large parts of the day to prevent herself from scratching her face completely open.

While other children her age are free to play, explore, and practice walking, Mira is limited every day by her symptoms.

Her developmental health professionals have already noticed that her development is falling behind. Due to the constant itching and severe sleep deprivation, her weight gain and growth curve have also declined.

As a parent, it is heartbreaking to watch your child suffer and be unable to explain why it is happening.

Why We Are Asking for Help

Based on the severity of Mira’s condition, her recovery is currently estimated to take approximately 2.5 years.

What is holding her recovery back most is the vicious cycle she has been trapped in for months:

• Extreme itching

• Scratching

• Open wounds

• Infections

• More inflammation

• More itching

As a result, her skin never gets enough uninterrupted time to truly heal. That is why we want to do everything possible to break this cycle.

Why Bali?

In Bali, there is a specialized treatment center with experience supporting people suffering from TSW.

There, Mira will have access to Cold Atmospheric Plasma (CAP) therapy, a treatment that is currently not available to her in the same way in the Netherlands. To undergo this treatment, we need to relocate to Bali for approximately 25 weeks.

This is not a decision we take lightly. It means temporarily separating our family and moving our lives to the other side of the world for six months. But as parents, you do everything you can to help your child.

What Is CAP Therapy?

CAP stands for Cold Atmospheric Plasma.

This treatment helps reduce bacteria and fungi on the skin while simultaneously supporting wound healing, skin regeneration, collagen production, and restoration of the skin barrier.

We believe CAP may help break the cycle of itching, open wounds, and recurring infections.

For Mira, this could mean:

• Less itching

• Less scratching

• Fewer open wounds

• Fewer infections

• More opportunity for healing

We do not view CAP as a miracle cure, but as a tool that may support and accelerate her recovery process.

We Are Not Only Focusing on Her Skin

At the same time, we are working on underlying factors that may contribute to her recovery.

We are currently following a program focused on improving her gut health and microbiome, supported by nutritional guidance and supplementation.

We believe healing requires attention to both the outside and the inside of the body. To sleep through the night without constant itching and pain.

Safe Living Environment Is Essential

Because Mira currently has very little skin barrier protection, her skin reacts extremely strongly to mold, fragrances, dust, cleaning products, and many other environmental triggers.

For that reason, we need one stable, safe, and controlled living environment during this treatment period where her skin can experience as much calm and protection as possible.

This is not a vacation. This is an intensive six-month treatment and care journey entirely focused on Mira’s recovery.

Temporarily Living Apart as a Family

Since Mira was born, Denise has been unable to work consistently due to the intensive care our daughter requires. As a result, Jeroen currently carries the primary financial responsibility for our family.

Because of this, he will not be able to remain in Bali for the entire treatment period and will need to travel back to the Netherlands regularly for work. For a 16-month-old little girl, this means she will not see her father every day for months.

Emotionally, this is incredibly difficult for our family, but we are making this sacrifice because we believe it offers her the best chance at recovery.

Where Will Your Support Go?

We are raising €53,250 to cover:

• Travel and medical logistics

• A safe living environment for 25 weeks

• CAP treatments and medical guidance

• Medical equipment and protective supplies

• Air purification and water filtration

• Special nutrition and daily care needs

• Intensive caregiving support throughout the treatment period

• Unforeseen medical expenses and recovery support

Any funds raised beyond our goal will be used exclusively for Mira’s ongoing care, medical expenses, and recovery journey.

Every euro will be used to give Mira the best possible chance at healing, comfort, and a better quality of life.
