My mom, Mindi, is facing a medical crisis that has turned our world upside down. She has dangerously high iron and ferritin levels, and her liver enzymes continue to climb higher and higher. Although they found a rare form of hemochromatosis, doctors are still struggling to pinpoint what is attacking her liver. And now doctors say her liver is failing. The doctors have found significant cirrhosis in her liver, and if we don’t get answers and treatment soon, it will progress to require a liver transplant. On top of all of this, she has an autoimmune disease, but the doctors are still trying to determine exactly what it is and if it’s related. She’s been jaundiced for over three months, and her body isn’t filtering iron or bilirubin as it should. Tomorrow, she’s having both a liver and bone marrow biopsy, and we’re hoping for some real answers.

This has been incredibly hard on our family. The constant doctor visits, the waiting, and the emotional toll has been overwhelming. She hasn’t been able to work since September and the financial burden of ongoing tests and hospital visits is growing every day. Even with all of this, my mom is still fighting and staying hopeful, and I want to do everything I can to help her keep going.
