I rescued Milo from a high-kill shelter in Lancaster about 2 months ago. He was about to be euthanized because he had bitten his previous owner without any disclosure of why. I felt in my heart that despite what the shelter was telling me, Milo was a "vicious dog," there was more to the story, so I decided to adopt him with the help of 2 amazing humans, Kwin & Dani, who run their own rescues.

After 2 drives out to Lancaster from Laguna, I finally had Milo safe and sound and thought all his worries were a thing of the past until I brought him home and immediately discovered he had a horrible limp in his front left paw.

I took him to my vet the next day and discovered he currently has two broken screws in his elbow, one of which we believe is a drywall screw. This speaks very loudly to the care he was getting from his previous owner.

Milo was abused horrifically and was about to pay the price with his life. He has a lot of trauma, yet he is the most loving dog I've ever seen. He walks up to every stranger and dog like his new best friend; he loves getting under the covers, snuggling, and sticking his head out the window to enjoy his freedom.

He has endured a great deal of pain for over a year despite only being 18 months old. The screws are protruding from his skin and restrict him from normal puppy activities. He can only go on short walks and needs breaks; stairs are difficult.

My family and I have decided that he deserves a chance at an everyday life, pain-free from his past. We have got him into an orthopedic surgeon specialist that will try to remove the screws that are not fused to his bone (see X-ray images attached).

I understand that part of having a pet is acknowledging the unforeseen medical costs, but I was not told he had this injury when I got him. Many have advised me to take him back. That is not an option for me, and I will do anything to get him out of this daily pain.
