Millie is my sweet 4-year-old dog who recently went through a very traumatic experience. She was pregnant with one puppy, and because the puppy grew too large for her to deliver naturally, Millie needed an emergency c-section. The surgery itself went well, but just three days later, something went terribly wrong—her stitches burst, and her intestines fell out, putting her life in immediate danger. I rushed her to the ER, but the first doctor was unable to help because he was already in surgery. I quickly took her to a second ER, where they were able to perform the emergency surgery she desperately needed. Afterward, Millie required extra care, so I brought her to a facility with 24-hour monitoring to make sure her vitals stayed stable and to watch for infection, since her intestines had been exposed for some time. The veterinary team ran tests, performed ultrasounds, and gave her medication to keep her comfortable. Through all of this, Millie has continued to be an amazing mom to her new puppy, nursing and caring for her little one despite everything she’s been through. Thankfully, Millie is now recovering well and remains in great spirits. Her puppy is also nursing well, and Millie’s resilience has been truly inspiring. This entire ordeal has resulted in a large, unexpected financial burden that I was not prepared for.
