Help Millie Klock move home to Florida
Why? Where is she?
My mom, Millie Klock, needed to move to Arizona three years ago to improve her pulmonary health. While living in Florida she had bronchiectasis with pseudomonas. Every six months she was hospitalized with pneumonia for 5-7 days then needed treatment with iv antibiotics through a picc line in her arm for an additional month. This eventually led to her making the tough decision to retire from her much loved job at Walt Disney World. My sister, Terri Lucas, offered to move with mom to help take care of her, leaving behind her clients and needing to build a new housecleaning client base for herself in Arizona. The results since moving to Arizona for Millie’s lung health have been amazing - she’s pseudomonas free and two years without any pneumonia flare ups.
Why does she need to move back to Florida?
In early September Millie noticed a lump on the bottom of her right breast. She went on a preplanned visit to Florida in October for her great grandson’s fourth birthday and had a great time with family and friends. After returning to Arizona, she was finally able to get an appointment with a general surgeon/breast care doctor. The doctor recommended two different biopsy options, and Millie choose the needle biopsy procedure. Unfortunately that procedure resulted in nothing but pain! The lump rested right against her ribcage and was small. The radiologist took out three small chunks of mostly muscle. Very ouch with no sedative! After a weeks wait, the results were inconclusive. The next logical step was an incisional biopsy, which was really a lumpectomy. The lumpectomy came with it’s own set of complications. The wound opened up! Of course this happened on a weekend, which meant a trip to the ER to have it checked. The best they figure is that her body rejected the dissolvable stitches. While that wound was left to heal on its own from the inside out for 6 weeks, the pathology from the lumpectomy came back with IDC breast cancer, low grade, stage 1. Another surgery was recently performed to clean up the margins of the tumor (make sure they got it all) and remove 1-3 lymph nodes to biopsy, as well as close the incision properly so it will heal correctly and promptly this time. The lymph node biopsy results have not come back yet.
As you can see, it’s currently a struggle to coordinate Millie’s doctor’s appointments around Terri’s work schedule, resulting in Millie going to appointments alone, and not having anyone to help her while Terri is working. Millie realizes how instrumental it would be for her healing that she and Terri move back to Florida. There she can be surrounded by a strong support system of both of her daughters, all of her grandchildren, and her great grandson, as well as lifelong friends and family during the remainder of her treatment. In addition, other friends and family not living in Florida are located on the East coast, making visits to Florida possible.
We all believe that mom’s time spent in Arizona has improved her lung health enough to move back to Florida with no problems, although we will be monitoring that closely.
Any donations, big or small, will help with moving expenses and get Millie and Terri home to Florida and family as soon as possible. They are prepared to leave as soon as enough money is raised.
If anyone can take the time to fly out, and drive the moving truck while towing a car, that would cut some of the cost. They would have to plan at least a week, 3 1/2 days driving plus flight time.
Expected expenses:
26’ truck - $1500-1600
truck driver - $1000
car dolly - $300
diesel fuel - $1000
tolls, best guess - $300 - 400
3 nights hotel for them and driver - $720
4 days food - $530
truck loading help - $600
flight(s) for truck driver - $75 - 300
minivan rental (for mom & Terri to drive themselves) - $1200
minivan gas - $450-550
1 month storage unit rental - $100
1 month help for Terri to begin rebuilding client base - $1000
Total
$8775 - $9300
