Hello, we’re Katrina and James, and we’re raising funds to provide essential shade and protection for our daughter, Millie, who has been diagnosed with Albinism. Our goal is to create a safe outdoor environment at her school, allowing her to play and learn just like everyone else.

Albinism is a lifelong, rare genetic condition affecting about 1 in 17,000 people in the UK. It results in insufficient melanin production, impacting hair, skin, and eyes. Millie has Oculocutaneous Albinism Type 1 (OCA1), which means she is visually impaired, suffers from photophobia (light sensitivity), and has very blonde hair and pale skin.

There is no cure for Albinism, so we must make adjustments to support Millie's vision and protect her delicate skin. Year-round sun protection is crucial for Millie to see better and stay safe from harmful UV rays, reducing her risk of severe sunburn and skin cancer.

Unfortunately, with school budgets at an all-time low, Millie is currently unable to participate fully in outdoor activities due to the lack of adequate shade. This is where we need your help.

We aim to raise funds to purchase trees and sturdy shade structures for her school. These additions will provide Millie with the necessary protection to enjoy playtime and outdoor learning safely with her friends. Moreover, this shade will benefit all children at the school, promoting a more inclusive and safe environment for everyone.
