Mileyda's family has faced many challenges over the years, especially with her father’s long battle with cancer. Watching him fight with such courage has inspired Mileyda to pursue a career in healthcare, so she can help others facing their own struggles. As a full-time college student working part-time, Mileyda is doing her best to support her family while following her dreams. However, she is struggling to cover the costs of an incredible internship opportunity that could shape her future.
This summer, Mileyda has the incredible opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic from June 9-23 with VAW Global Health Alliances and the CSUN Medical Chapter. This program is designed to commit to global outreach and improving access to healthcare for underserved communities. During these 15 days, she will be participating in clinical shadowing, hands-on service, and cultural immersion experiences that will allow her to better understand global health challenges firsthand. This experience means so much to Mileyda because it gives her the chance to serve others in a way that truly matters, while learning from the communities she will work alongside. It’s an opportunity for her not just as a future healthcare professional, but as a person developing education, understanding, and a deeper appreciation for the challenges and resilience of people in underserved communities.
The funds raised will cover Mileyda's flight tickets and program fees. This support will make it possible for her to participate fully in this life changing experience and help bring accessible healthcare to those who need it most.
