Hi, this is Veronica and I'm Miley's human. Miley is our 10 year old boisterous little pug and beagle mix rescue. She's a little on the chubby side due to hypothyroidism, but that doesn't stop her from living her happy and curious life.
A few weeks ago, Miley had urgent dental surgery for a bleeding mass inside her mouth. During the surgery, the vet tech (thank God for them!) noticed a mass adjacent to her vulva, aspirated it and sent it off to be tested. The pathology report came back and it turned out to be a cancerous mast cell tumor. Stunned, we immediately scheduled an appointment with an oncologist. During her first visit with her oncologist, we asked that another small lump on her shoulder also get tested. The oncologist was able to aspirate and test onsite and the lump also turned out to be a cancerous mast cell tumor. Miley's belly was then shaved and she had an ultrasound and x-ray. Thankfully, it looks like the cancer hasn't metastasized into her organs. The oncologist immediately put her on a course of high dose prednisone steroids, omeprazole and Benadryl to shrink the tumors. The combination of these meds makes Miley very thirsty so the poor girl has to go potty about 15x per day. Thankfully, I'm working from home and able to take her out whenever she asks.
This week, we had a consult with a vet surgeon to see if Miley's tumors can be safely removed and while the one on her shoulder is fairly cut and dry, the one adjacent to her vulva is a tough case and may require another surgery for vulva reconstruction if the pathology reports come back with bad news. There is also the likelihood Miley will require chemotherapy after her surgeries, but we will cross that bridge when we get there; the surgery is the most important thing right now.
We have already spent close to $5000 on her oral surgery, oncology visits, meds, scans and we're asking for your help to raise funds for her surgery deposit. Miley is depending on this surgery and we desperately want to schedule it. The required deposit is $5006.60.
We feel terrible asking for your help during this tough time for everyone and honestly any little bit helps - there is no donation too small. If you aren't in a place to donate, we understand completely and just hope you'd share this gofundme and please keep Miley in your prayers. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this long-winded post about our sassy little puggle.
