Lieve vrienden, familie en steunbetuigers,

Met een zwaar gemoed deel ik dit verhaal, in de hoop dat we samen iets kunnen betekenen voor onze dappere kleinzoon Miles. Hij is pas 3 jaar oud, een energiek en vrolijk jongetje dat dol is op zijn Lego, buiten spelen en vooral een ondeugende jongen is. Maar op 28 december 2024 veranderde alles.

Wat begon als een doodgewone dag, eindigde in een nachtmerrie. Miles zakte thuis plotseling in elkaar en moest gereanimeerd worden. Hij werd met spoed naar het ziekenhuis gebracht. Pas daar, na meerdere onderzoeken, kregen we het onvoorstelbare nieuws: hij heeft kanker.

Wat deze situatie extra zwaar maakt, is dat Miles lijdt aan een vorm van kanker die volgens de dokters jaarlijks slechts bij 15 kinderen in Nederland voorkomt. De dokters vertelden ons dat hij binnen deze kleine groep de “hoofdprijs” heeft, wat betekent dat zijn ziekte bijzonder intensief is en zijn behandeling zwaar en onzeker zal zijn. Zijn behandeltraject zal minstens twee jaar duren, als alles goed gaat. Dat betekent een lange en ingrijpende periode van chemotherapie, ziekenhuisopnames, ruggenprikken en regelmatige medische onderzoeken. Toch blijven we hoopvol en vechten we samen met hem voor zijn herstel.

Waarom deze actie?

De komende twee jaar zullen voor Miles en zijn alleenstaande moeder ontzettend zwaar worden zowel emotioneel als financieel. Daarom willen we haar ondersteunen, zodat ze zich volledig op Miles kan richten zonder de constante zorgen voor zijn herstel.

De donaties zullen gebruikt worden voor:

• Medische kosten die niet volledig worden vergoed.

• Reiskosten en kinderopvang.

• Toekomstige zorg voor eventuele vervolgbehandelingen.

• Hulpmiddelen en aanpassingen in huis om zijn comfort en welzijn te waarborgen tijdens deze zware tijd.

• Onderwijs en ontwikkeling zodat hij ondanks alles een mooie start krijgt.

Voorbereiden op de toekomst

Hoewel Miles nog aan het begin van zijn lange behandeling staat, willen we ook voorbereid zijn op de toekomstige medische kosten die zich kunnen aandienen. Er kunnen vervolgbehandelingen, therapieën of medische controles nodig zijn. De weg naar herstel is lang en onzeker, dus het is belangrijk om financieel voorbereid te zijn op wat komen gaat.

Daarnaast willen we investeren in Miles’ toekomst. Het geld zal ook worden gebruikt voor zijn opleiding en ontwikkeling. We willen ervoor zorgen dat hij toegang heeft tot peuteropvang, een goede onderwijsbasis, en speciale activiteiten die zijn groei en ontwikkeling bevorderen. Dit alles helpt om hem een zorgeloze toekomst te bieden, ondanks de moeilijke start die hij nu heeft.

With a heavy heart, I share this story, hoping that together we can make a difference for our brave grandson, Miles. He is only 3 years old, a lively and cheerful little boy who loves Lego, playing outside, and getting into mischief. But on December 28, 2024, everything changed.

What started as an ordinary day turned into a nightmare. Miles suddenly collapsed at home and had to be resuscitated. He was rushed to the hospital, and after multiple tests, we received the unimaginable news: he has cancer.

What makes this situation even more heartbreaking is that Miles has a rare form of cancer that affects only about 15 children in the Netherlands each year. Doctors told us that within this small group, he has won the "grand prize"—meaning his disease is particularly aggressive and his treatment will be intense and uncertain. His treatment plan will last at least two years, if all goes well. That means a long and gruelling journey of chemotherapy, hospital stays, spinal taps, and constant medical tests. But we remain hopeful and will fight alongside him for his recovery.

The next two years will be extremely tough for Miles and his single mother, both emotionally and financially. That’s why we want to support her—so she can fully focus on Miles’ recovery without the constant worry of financial strain.
