With a very heavy heart, I am creating this GoFundMe for our beloved dog, Miles.
On Thursday, February 13, 2025, Miles was struck by a car on Route 24 behind our home. We are incredibly lucky and beyond grateful for the bystanders and police who arrived within seconds of the accident. Sadly, the person who hit him stopped briefly to check their vehicle down the road and then left the scene.
Miles is more than just a pet, he’s family. He is the last-born pup of the second litter from our dogs, Dewey and Daisy. He has had the joy of growing up alongside his biological mother and father, making our bond with him even more special. This accident has been a heartbreaking reminder of what truly matters in life, keeping our family together.
From Thursday to Sunday, Miles was in critical care at the Bel Air Animal Hospital, where he received excellent treatment. On Monday, we were able to transport him to a specialist in Annapolis, Maryland. The following day, he underwent surgery for his right front leg, which was broken in three places. A metal plate has been placed in his leg, and it will remain there for the rest of his life. Thankfully, the surgery went well, and by Wednesday afternoon, he was finally able to come home!
The reunion was nothing short of amazing, our family felt whole again. If it weren’t for the quick response of those who helped Miles in his time of need, he wouldn’t be here with us today. We are forever grateful.
As you can imagine, the hospital bills have been overwhelming, and looking ahead, Miles will need continued vet visits and therapy. We’re not starting this GoFundMe with the expectation of covering the full cost, but so many kind friends and family members have asked how they can help, so here we are.
Anything you can give is deeply appreciated, and even if you’re unable to donate, sharing this page means the world to us. The love and support we’ve received already have been incredible, and the most important thing is that Miles is home, safe, and on the road to recovery.
Thank you all so much.
With gratitude,
Trey Riley
