He is presently at a skilled nursing center in Bellevue, Illinois. I am a resident of Las Vegas Nevada . Myself and his two sisters travel back and forth to look after Miles, my only son, their brother. His daughter’s mother is there helping with his care also.
On the night of 4/12/19 Miles was in the Delmar Loop, an entertainment, restaurant area of St. Louis,Mo. He was viciously attacked being beat about the head, unable to defend his self after being knocked to the ground. He received catastrophic injuries. The EMTs told the hospital that Miles was down an hour before the ambulance was able to get to him.
At the hospital he was put on life support. He had two brain surgeries over the next two days. Craniotomy to remove the top and frontal of his skull to relieve the brain swelling. Damaged parts of his brain were also removed.
Over these nearly eight months Miles has been in a comatose vegetative state. He has been moved from two different hospitals to acute care rehab center to skilled nursing center to emergency rooms eleven times. From St Louis to Sycamore to Bellevue. He has been on two six hours ambulance rides both times resulting in him being put back on life support.
He has had a multitude of medical procedures done over this time. He has suffered through back to back infections from being bedridden. Having to be put on full respirator six to seven times. Storming , irregular heart rate, temperature. Gtube (feeding tube), trache, being suctioned twelve or more times a day, pick line surgically placed in his arm, lumbar puncture.A stage 4 bedsore, also surgically cleaned, blood transfusions, collapsed lungs. Surgery for a brain shunt which also had its complications.
Through all this he is still struggling to survive. Miles was a high school, college athlete. He was very competitive,so I believe he is still trying to beat this. Miles had part of his frontal and temporal lobe removed. The Dr. says he will not be who he was but he is still my son. He had just started a new job at the St Louis airport when this happened so he did not have insurance benefits started yet. He is on Illinois Medicade. We would like to get any or better medical equipment and supplies that he needs . So please donate what you can. Every dollar will help.
