Help Miles after being hit by a drunk driver

Donation protected
Hello all,

Monday night the 10th of August, 2020 my brother and his fiancé were walking home from dinner when he was struck by a drunk driver who swerved off the road.  The driver then fled the scene.

He was blessed to have two nurses see the accident and rush to his aid to help reduce the bleeding until the ambulance arrived.  He was also blessed to not have sustained any brain or spine injuries that are known at this point.

He did have a large portion of his left side impacted by the car, breaking his leg in four places (femur x2, tibia, fibula), his hip, two ribs, and some facial bones.  He had some internal bleeding and damage to his spleen.  He has been on a ventilator since the accident due to the heavy pain medication he has been on.

We are so thankful that he survived the accident and hopeful that he will be himself and able to walk again.  Unfortunately, that will be unlikely for a long time and a lot of physical therapy.  We are also hopeful the hip will not have to be replaced but we do not yet know.

For his recovery once home, we do not have a lot of great options, and we have chosen my parents’ house as the best of them.  This is going to require some changes as there is no bathtub or shower downstairs.  There is a room that can be converted into a bedroom large enough for the bed and equipment he will need for recovery.

We just want to make it into a space that can accommodate his healing process with the base amount of privacy and modesty we can manage.

That is why I am asking for help.  These are the kinds of things that insurance does not help with, and we have no idea yet what additional uncovered costs we may run into trying to help him heal.  Asking for help is not my first instinct, so this feels awkward to me, but anything you can contribute will help take this weight off our shoulders as we try to wrap our heads around what this is going to take.

His wedding was already postponed once do to Covid restrictions, and they had just sent out the re-invite the week before this happened.  He is 26 years old and just starting his life with his Fiancé Sami.  We just want to take as many burdens off their plate as possible as he is going to wake up to a new reality.

lastly, we were hesitant to use a picture of him in the hospital, but ultimately decided that this is our reality right now.  A past picture doesn't communicate the seriousness of what we are up against.  Thank you for your help and understanding.
