She was known by her loved ones as someone full of life—vibrant, kindhearted, and endlessly resilient. Milan had a smile that could soften the hardest days and a laugh that echoed joyfully through every space she graced. She was not just a friend; she was family, a confidante, and a guiding light to so many in her community.
Originally from the Dominican Republic, Milan made the brave decision to leave home in pursuit of a better future—not just for herself, but for her loved ones. She traveled to Bermuda and later to New York City with hopes of building a life that could support her family back home. She was deeply rooted in love and responsibility, always striving to uplift others even when carrying heavy burdens of her own.
Milan was also a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community. In recent years, she courageously embraced her true identity, transitioning from Jonathan to Milan. Her journey of self-discovery inspired those around her to live more authentically and love more openly. Milan’s strength, grace, and unwavering authenticity left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Tragically, Milan was found deceased in New York City in July 2023. For months, her family and friends searched tirelessly for answers, only to recently receive the devastating news that she had passed away and was listed as an “unclaimed person.” The grief of not knowing turned into a deeper sorrow upon confirmation, especially for her mother, Soraida Perez Batista, who is heartbroken and thousands of miles away in the Dominican Republic.
There is currently no clear information on the circumstances surrounding her death. What we do know is that Milan deserves to be laid to rest with dignity and love. Her mother dreams of bringing her daughter home, to say a proper goodbye and honor the beautiful life Milan lived. However, due to the family’s financial situation, they are unable to cover the cost of transporting Milan’s remains back to the Dominican Republic.

Actualmente no hay información clara sobre las circunstancias que rodearon su muerte. Lo que sí sabemos es que Milán merece ser puesta a descansar con dignidad y amor. Su madre sueña con traer a su hija a casa, para decir un adiós adecuado y honrar la hermosa vida que vivió Milán. Sin embargo, debido a la situación financiera de la familia, no pueden cubrir el costo de transportar los restos de Milán de regreso a la República Dominicana.
