Help Mila Get the Treatment she Needs
This is for my wonderful 3 month old puppy, Mila. Mila has not had an easy start to her life and has been back and forth to the vets every week since I took her home. Just as she seemed to recover from one illness the next would strike worse than the time before. One night I went to check on Mila and I found her unresponsive and limp with her eyes rolled back in her head and could not wake her up for around 15 minutes, vets believe this was a small seizure. Mila was rushed to the vets and had to stay overnight in a special facility that could accommodate her needs. Shortly after this it was decided that she would have to go see a specialist in Edinburgh as it was clear she couldn't go on suffering from an unknown illness when she became no longer able to walk. The specialist team in the Royal Dick Veterinary Hospital discovered that Mila has an extremely rare disease called hypertrophic osteodystrophy. This disease effects her growth plates and causes severe inflammation leading to malformation of the bones and the body attacking and killing its own cells if left untreated, another effect of this disease is it weakens her immune system leaving her very vulnerable, resulting in Mila also contracting pneumonia. While I am very happy we have finally discovered what is wrong with my puppy and know that it is treatable in most cases, I am also worried as Mila's insurance will not cover any of the vet costs. Thus far I have spent close to £6,500 to ensure Mila received the best care required, this meant having to borrow a lot of money, I am still a student meaning it is difficult for me to earn this money back to pay back my debts. Mila still has a ways to go, the treatment she needs for her condition requires immunosuppressant steroids, however as she also has pneumonia the treatment has to be delayed until the this is treated. Any money donated would go a long way in helping me to finish Mila's treatment, paying for the medication and various scans and X-rays she still needs, and consequently allowing her to live the carefree and happy life that a puppy like her should be living. Any money not spent on vet bills will be donated to animal charities. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and I also cannot thank you enough if you decide to donate or even share this fundraiser. Mila means the world to me and it is heartbreaking to see her so ill.
