Earlier this year, my sweet 14.5-year-old Miko collapsed while on a walk. The veterinarian diagnosed him with heart failure, but thanks to his daily heart and lung medications, he’s been doing well and is still full of love and spirit. We’ve been managing regular visits with his cardiologist and vet.
Recently, though, I noticed what looked like a broken nail that wouldn’t heal. After two rounds of antibiotics, x-rays, and cytology tests, the vet discovered a tumor with signs of bone loss. After more visits and consultation between his primary care vet, cardiologist, and well rated oncologist we were told that thankfully the tumor is localized to his toe and the best path forward is amputation (radiation was the other option but not recommended with his heart failure). The concern is the tumor spreading, but the prognosis from all vets and the surgeon was very good and that this is curable as it was caught early!
The mounting vet bills have been overwhelming, especially since our insurance didn’t cover anything so I’ve been paying out of pocket. I just want to give him the best care and comfort for however much time he has left.
If you’re able to help, through a donation or by sharing this, it would mean the world to both of us. Every bit goes toward his surgery, medications, and rechecks so he can keep enjoying his golden years.
Thank you so much for reading and for caring.
