My name is Tricia Ranahan and I am writing this today for my nephew Mikey Ranahan. I recently discovered that he has been, along with his mom, Dad, and sister, fighting a silent battle against cancer. To say I was devastated to hear this news would be an understatement after all, this is Mikey! health conscience, in terrific shape, hardworking 27-year-old with big goals and aspirations. As a young boy he was my Friday night Domino’s pizza date and as he grew up, he became my Sunday morning breakfast buddy.

He’s a tough kid, working hard to become an EMT paramedic with the fire department and anyone who knows him knows his fighting spirit!

Mikey was diagnosed with cancer in October 2023 at 26. He had several surgeries ultimately removing what we thought was all the cancer. After several months of surveillance with CT scans and many labs drawn it was discovered that he had a reoccurrence in February 2024. Mike went through a series of PET scans, revealing the cancer had returned in his abdominal lymph nodes. Mike just finished up his first round of chemotherapy and has two more to go.

Each chemotherapy cycle lasts three weeks. He must go every day (Monday – Friday) for 4-5 hours at a time. Insurance only covers so much so there are a lot of out-of-pocket expenses. He is athletic and eats very well and takes good care of himself physically. It is a mountain to climb for such a young person, but he’s climbing it with great positivity every day.
