Please Help Mike's Battle With Colon Cancer
Hi, my name is Judy; I’m the wife of an incredible kind-hearted man who always puts everyone’s needs before his own; unfortunately, he now needs your help.
In 2021 at the age of 50, Mike received some devastating news; he was diagnosed with Colon Cancer & had to undergo surgery to remove a large tumour. After the surgery, he was told that cancer had spread to the outer wall of the colon & attached to his stomach; they assured him that they removed it all but took samples to have tested.
When he received the test results, he found out that it was worse than they initially thought & now he had Stage 4 Terminal Colon Cancer. He was given 1 to 3 years to live, providing he started chemo treatments immediately & that they would stop the spread. He quickly began his journey with chemo treatments; a few months later, he had a CT-Scan to see if it worked. He was hoping for some good news, but sadly he found out that the chemo treatments he had undergone failed to work. The tumour was larger & cancer spread to his lymph nodes & liver.
The oncologist then changed his chemo treatments; now, after three months of the new treatments, he has found out that they haven’t worked either.
Because they both haven’t worked, rather than trying different chemo's, they want him to have FoundationOne CDx testing, its genomic testing that identifies specific underlying DNA alterations that may be driving the tumour’s growth & spread. This information will tell his oncologist the tumour’s unique genomic profile & which particular drug to use for this type of cancer; it’s called targeted therapy.
Unfortunately, the tests can only be done in the U.S. & it costs $6,998.77; it isn’t covered by OHIP or our insurance company. Once the testing is complete, the oncologist will know which treatments to use; however, we have been advised that these treatments will not be covered & will cost between $5,000 to $8,000 every two weeks.
We honestly don’t know how much time Mike has left without getting these tests & treatments done. We are hoping for the best while preparing for the worst.
Because he was self-employed, forced to close his fishing tackle business in Merrickville & is too sick to work, he can’t afford to get these expensive tests & treatments along with paying for day-to-day living expenses.
Mike needs your support to help navigate this horrible disease. The funds from this campaign will help cover a range of expenses, including paying for the genomic testing, the treatments he will need & releasing some financial stresses from him so he can focus on healing.
Any donation, big or small, will be gratefully appreciated & will make a huge difference.
Please note that this request is urgent; he needs to get these tests & treatments done as soon as possible before his cancer spreads too far.
Please share our campaign, pray, & write Mike a note of encouragement below.
Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
