Hi – we are Gwen and Anthony, Kel Tabaniag’s youngest sister & cousin.

We're coming together to ask for your help in supporting someone who means the world to us — our brother, our cousin, our protector, our anchor.

Kel is the kind of person you’re lucky to have in your life. He’s sharp, charismatic, fiercely intelligent, and endlessly loving. A Bay Area native raised in Redwood City and now living in San Francisco, he’s the guy who lights up every room — always cracking a joke or sharing thoughtful insight. For us, he’s more than family — he is family, in every sense of the word.

Fifteen years ago, Kel beat parotid cancer. Now, he’s facing it again — and this time, it's stage 4 squamous cell carcinoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer that’s returned and spreading from his face to his lymph nodes.

A Long Road Ahead

Kel is about to begin a challenging and uncertain treatment journey. He is undergoing his first round of chemo — 4-day rounds followed by 17 days of recovery, then repeated.

Surgery or radiation may come next, but that’s still uncertain. With the cancer located so close to his eye, radiation may not even be an option. And the chemo comes with a 20% risk of permanent neuropathy — nerve damage that can cause lasting numbness or weakness.

But Kel is moving forward with courage, strength, and hope. He’s ready to fight. And we believe in him — because he’s done it before.

Kel recently moved into a new apartment and is preparing to take time off work to focus entirely on healing. With no income during treatment, the costs of medical care, rent, transportation, and recovery essentials will pile up fast.
