Mike recently had a back injury that has rendered him out of work for the next several weeks. In addition to extensive medical bills, Mike is the primary income of his household/farm and anticipates difficult times ahead. He has been a staple in the Northern Michigan horse community and has shown great generosity through the years, including being the fundraising organizer for the covered arena at the Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds in Traverse City.
The most significant memory I have of my dad’s generosity is driving together somewhere in the country to pick up horses and coming upon a busy intersection. There was a man asking for money. My dad called the man over and gave him all the loose change he could find in the truck. While it maybe was only $10 total, I remember asking him why he gave his money to someone he does not know. His response was, “Because today he needed it more than me.” We barely had enough gas money to get home that trip.
This cranky, old bastard has the biggest heart. If you are able to contribute even $10 today we are forever thankful.
