Help Mike with Vet Bills for Woodford
Donation protected
Please help my good friend Mike Marks pay for Vet Bills and Possible Physical Therapy for his dog Woodford after he was hit by a car and went missing for 9 days!
Mike & Woodford's Story:
Call me biased because Mike stood up at my wedding, but you will have to look long and far to find a better person in this world. The guy works hard, puts others before himself constantly, never complains about anything, can light up a room with his personality, and helps rescue animals.
He's the kind of guy that would go out of his way to help someone else, without hesitation, and want nothing in return. He's the kind of guy who you could trust with the safety of your kids, even if you had never met him before. He's the kind of guy who would travel 4.5 hours out into Iowa just to see you for a few hours to catch up. To name just a few things.
He is also the kind of guy who would take a "handout" from no one, so please don't mention this to him so he can't try to shut it down before we can help him!
That brings me to Woodford's story. (Dog on the left)
Mike rescued Woodford and brought him home in October 2020. Woodford was found living on the street in Arkansas prior to this. Woodford was the perfect addition and companion for Whiskey (Dog on the right), who Mike rescued back in 2019. Whiskey & Woodford quickly became thicker than thieves, and are each others partners in crime.
Mike loves these dogs more than anything, they are his kids.
Mike had left the pups with a dog sitter on Friday March 5th to come out and visit like we had planned. On Saturday March 6th, Mike got a call saying Woodford had gotten loose, and being a rescue & from the streets, he is very skittish of other people and ran.
While trying to corral him that day, Woodford found his way into traffic and was struck by a passing vehicle. He got away and was later pursued to a park where he went out onto a pond and fell through the thin ice, which he managed to climb out of. It is believed that the injuries he suffered are from these two incidents.
He managed to escape the pursuit of the people trying to corral him that day (March 6th) and by the time Mike got back it was dark and we searched until about 1:30am that night.
Mike and a crew continued to search through the whole week. Walking and driving the neighborhoods / fields, putting up flyers, and leaving out food / Mikes clothes trying to lure him in.
Mike also stayed/slept in his car every night in the neighborhood where he was lost, with the doors open hoping Woodford would see him, but there were no confirmed sightings of Woodford for 7 whole days.
Saturday March 13th at 4:23am Woodford was spotted limping past a ring doorbell in a neighborhood near where he was lost.
Finally, on March 14th around 9pm someone had called Mike and said that they spotted Woodford in their back yard! Mike was able to get there in time to coax him out with food until he could grab him and get him to safety.
By some miracle, Woodford survived 9 days in the wild in freezing temperatures, after being struck by a car, and falling through a pond into freezing water! But, he has suffered significant injuries to his back right leg.
He is currently at a vet getting his wounds cleared out and stitched up. He was missing a chunk of fresh from his back right hip from the car and had a cut deep enough to expose the bone running from his hip down to his ankle.
The vet said best case scenario he has just a large scar and may require some physical therapy, but potentially could recover fully. Worst case scenario, they may have to amputate his leg if they can't clear the infection.
Either way, Mike is extremely relieved that he has his buddy back as safe as he can be for now.
That's where we come in. Mike will undoubtedly have some large bills coming his way from the Vet and they will continue if Woodford needs physical therapy to get back to 100%.
Please make a donation, however big or small, and help this man out. Rest assured that if your name popped up in front of him needing help, he would absolutely do the same for you.
Your money would be going directly to help cover the Vet Bills and Therapy for Woodford, as well as helping cover the costs of the traps, flyers, Facebook Ads, and many other expenses that came about over the past week.
Thank you so much for your time and generosity.
Sincerely,
Mike, Woodford, Whiskey, & their Family.
