Mike Uker was once at the top of his sport—a Division I, two-time All-American wrestler under legendary coach Dan Gable at the University of Iowa. But behind that success came a heavy cost. Over the course of his life and athletic career, Mike suffered seven major concussions. One of them left him dealing with seizures for three years. In the years since, Mike’s life has taken a difficult turn. After battling Lyme disease and enduring ongoing health challenges, he was eventually diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Since 2012, Mike has faced periods of homelessness—sleeping on couches, in spare rooms, and even in his car—while doing his best to get by with sporadic work. Despite earning a Doctor of Chiropractic degree, his daily life is impacted by severe headaches, brain fog, and memory loss that make stability incredibly hard to maintain.
There is hope. A specialized treatment program in Mexico has helped many people—especially veterans with TBI and PTSD—find real relief and regain their ability to live normal, productive lives. Mike is hoping for that same chance. If you take a moment to think about everything that has happened in your own life since 2012, it puts into perspective just how long Mike has been fighting this uphill battle. For him, these years have been filled with constant struggle and uncertainty. Any support you can offer—whether through a donation or simply sharing his story—can help Mike take a step toward healing and rebuilding his life.
