Help Support Michael “Big Mike” Tabak and His Family
On August 20th, Mike experienced sudden and severe back pain that changed his life forever. He was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent an extensive 11-hour emergency surgery, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Since then, he has remained in medical care and is currently at Kessler Rehabilitation Center, working tirelessly to regain strength and adjust to life after losing the use of his legs.
For over 30 years, he’s been a proud resident of Pompton Lakes — always the first to lend a hand, offer support, or bring a smile to someone’s face. Whether you’ve ridden countless miles with him in the motorcycle world or spent your summers vacationing with him, Mike needs our help.
As if matters couldn't be any worse, we are desperately pressed for time. Mike is due to return home mid-December. A full remodel of part of his home is mandatory and essential.
This has been a heartbreaking and life-altering experience not only for Mike but for our entire family. Mike has always been a devoted family man — a loving father and proud grandfather. He played a huge role in his grandchildren’s daily lives, helping to care for them and always being present for the big and small moments that mattered most. His sudden paralysis has deeply impacted not only his own life but the lives of his children and grandchildren who miss his active presence and helping hands every day.
The Tabak family now faces the enormous challenge of making their home safe and accessible so Mike can return home with dignity. This includes adding wheelchair ramps, widening doorways, and building a fully ADA-accessible bathroom — all costly but essential modifications. On top of that, Mike faces extensive medical bills from his hospital and rehabilitation stays.
For a man who has spent decades giving to others without ever asking for anything in return, this is not easy — but now he needs the love and support of his friends, family, and community.
Please consider donating to help the Tabak family through this incredibly difficult time. Every contribution, no matter the size, will go directly toward making the home accessible and covering ongoing medical expenses. If you’re unable to give financially, sharing this page means the world and truly helps.
Let’s rally together for Big Mike — the same way he’s always been there for others.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and continued support.
