On December 7, Mike was involved in a near-fatal motorcycle accident on his way home from Tyler, Texas. He was found on the side of the road barely breathing, with both lungs collapsed, seven broken ribs, a broken clavicle, a lacerated liver and internal bleeding.
He had two major surgeries to repair his injuries. One surgery plated four broken ribs and corrected a dangerous flail chest. The other surgery plated his clavicle. He had two chest tubes, 49 staples and spent a week in the hospital fighting through tremendous pain.
By the grace of God, and through the prayers of so many friends and family, Mike made it home. His recovery will take time. His lungs alone are expected to take months to heal, and he now faces daily breathing exercises and physical therapy. We are grateful that he is able to be home with his wife and children for Christmas instead of his family planning a funeral.
As believers, we know that God walks beside us in every season. Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.” We have seen His protection over Michael and we trust Him to carry our family through the months ahead.
Mike and Sarah both work as 1099 contractors, and neither receives paid time off or medical leave. With Mike's stay in the hospital and physical therapy going forward, and with Sarah taking time off to help him recover, driving him to appointments, physical therapy, etc., and with the insurance deductible resetting soon, this accident has created a heavy financial strain on top of medical bills and therapy costs.
This GoFundMe is being created to help bridge the gap during this difficult season. Funds raised will go toward medical expenses, lost wages and basic living costs while Mike heals at home.
We are simply asking for prayer and support from our community. If you feel led to give, know that every donation, no matter the amount, will be received with deep gratitude and used toward Mike's recovery and the needs of the family.
It is humbling to ask for help, but we believe God uses people to shine His light in times of need. We trust that He is not finished writing this story and that He will continue to show His faithfulness through prayer, love and community support.
Galatians 6:2 says, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you fulfill the law of Christ.” Thank you for surrounding this family with prayer, kindness and care this Christmas. May God bless you for every act of love.
