- Hi, my name is Mike. On May 26, 2024, I was at a picnic for Memorial Day and suffered a heart attack. Because I required a higher level of care I was air lifted to Wellspan Hospital in York, Pa. After being admitted I endured multiple set backs including a stroke. During that time I was on full life support including ecmo, which was doing the entire work of my heart. I needed an operation to remove a large clot from my heart, however, the procedure was too risky. I remained on ecmo for 32 days until The University of Pennsylvania Hospital stepped in and flew me to Philadelphia. Dr. Cevasco, with the help of her heart team, were able to retrieve the clot from my heart and insert an LVAD to assist my heart with pumping. Without their help I would not be here today as hospice was the next option. Prior to this incident I was working full time to support my family. The short term disability has not provided nearly enough to pay all of my bills, including my rent. The short term disability is set to end next month. Im currently unable to work and we are behind on all of our bills and rent. Yes, assistance is available as I am now currently disabled,however, this could take up to 6 months for approval. I hope you can find it in your heart to help.
