Who are Mike & Nancy?
Mike & Nancy have been active members in their community for decades. Nancy’s lifelong generosity has been a source of strength and kindness for her family and community, even as multiple sclerosis has progressively limited her mobility. Mike, her devoted husband of fifty-one years, has done everything he can to support her, even as his own health concerns mounted. Because of Mike’s worsening condition, he can no longer provide the daily assistance Nancy needs. The additional cost of daily caretakers adds a heavy financial burden. Additionally, their mobility problems necessitate a wheelchair accessible van, but even a used model costs as much as a new car. The loan for the van consumes a large slice of their income. Paying down that debt would free up money for essential treatments, medications, and caregiver support.
Why Your Help is Needed
- Nancy has lived with Multiple Sclerosis since 1995. She now requires a powered wheelchair, daily assistance getting in and out of bed, and regular caregiver visits. Expenses that quickly add up.
- Mike endures chronic back pain, had heart valve replacement surgery, and has been on dialysis three times a week since 2021. Each of these issues brings its own set of costly treatments.
- Even with generous help from friends and family, the combined weight of medical bills, caregiver fees, and the monthly car loan payment is overwhelming.
The Goal
We are aiming to raise money to:
- Pay off the remaining balance on their car loan, removing a large, recurring expense.
- Reduce outstanding medical debt so that essential treatments and medications can continue uninterrupted.
- Provide a cushion for future caregiving costs and any unexpected health expenses that may arise.
A Lifetime of Community Service
- Nancy has always given back. She led the local 4-H group for seven years, taught 4-H sewing classes, earned the MS Society’s “Mother of the Year” award in 2001, and was honored by the state legislature for her fundraising with the National MS Society’s annual walk. She also taught Sunday School until her declining health made it impossible.
- Mike, too, has been a pillar of his community. He worked in agriculture for thirty-three years before his health forced his retirement. He also served in the Army, was an Elder in his church, and sat on the School Site Council.
