On the twenty ninth of April, 2025 my Hyundai Sonata was stolen and hotwired be the criminal.
Recovered the car but it was not drivable, and AAA determined that it would cost too much money to get the car repaired.
The car was a total loss.
With the money from AAA on the twentieth of May, 2025 I purchased a 2000 Chevy Express 1500 van from Ramsell Auto Sales, 1349 W San Carlos Street, San Jose, California 95126.
The day after I purchased the van the odometer stated 080996 miles.
The van more suited my needs than the Sonata since it has plenty of room to transport a bicycle and to transport camping equipment.
On Saturday the thirty first of May the engine stopped working while I was driving the van.
Had the van towed to my home.
When the engine gave out the odometer said that the van was driven for 081490 miles.
On Monday the second of June had the van towed to L & T Auto Repair, 701 Lincoln Ave. San Jose, CA 95126, a service center recommended by AAA. There was informed that the engine died and that I need to get a new engine for the van. After the check had the van towed home.
Unfortunately found out that it was to expensive to get a new engine for the van, so now am without a vehicle.
A friend of mine who I consider reliable suggested that instead of attempting to fix the twenty five year old van that I concentrate on purchasing a younger vehicle.
My friend suggested that the twenty five year old van has other challenges which shall very likely surface.
Decided to take my friend’s advice and gave up on the van on the twenty second of July.
No longer have the van, which means that when I go shopping, have to have bags hanging from my bicycle. The grocery store I go to is about a mile from where I live, and other stores I go to are about two to four miles from where I live.
In my job hunting efforts am looking for jobs that are at the most six miles from where I live (which is a good bicycle range) or near a bus route.
Am now going to concentrate on purchasing a good, inexpensive used car or van which shall enable me to more easily get a job, transport groceries, and plant hunting ( am a leading authority on Rhododendron occidentale and recently was awarded the Silver Medal, the second highest award, of the American Rhododendron Society for my plant hunting activities).
Besides obtaining money in order to purchase a good used car or van, would like to also obtain money so that I can obtain a good bicycle rack so that I can transport my bicycle if I purchase a car. When the van was operating used it to transport my bicycle.
I am on a fixed income, for over four years my monthly expenditures have gone up five hundred dollars, and to get additional money have resorted to collecting aluminum cans and plastic bottles.
In my job hunting campaign am now only looking for jobs that are at the most six miles from where I live since that is a good bicycle range.
Am an authority on Rhododendron occidentale.
Because of having no transportation have done little plant hunting, or seed collecting for the American Rhododendron Seed Exchange.
This is what I contributed for the 2025 Seed Exchange.
Please help me get back on the road by contributing to my GoFundMe account.
Thank you,
Mike McCullough
