Hello friends, family, and loved ones, I am setting up this GoFundMe and writing to share some unfortunate news about my dad Michael Smith's health in the hopes that the vast community of people who love him and Lorraine the way that I do would be willing to assist with supporting them during this very difficult time.

Michael has been burdened with multiple bouts of bad news the last few months. It all started back when he was unable to pass a physical, so he was sent to his primary for some basic testing. This testing led to multiple other tests CT, Heart Cath, MRI, PET Scans, 3 Surgeries, ultrasounds you name it he probably had it. The extensive testing done led to the discovery of a large very concerning renal mass and a few not as concerning (at the time) lung masses. He proceeded to have the surgery to remove the kidney for biopsy, the results did come back positive for Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC). After the surgery his doctors felt they were able to remove all the cancer, and it was decided to keep monitoring the nodules on his lungs for any changes. The first PET following the kidney removal came back again with little concern for the lung nodules (appearing stable), it wasn’t until his most recent PET that there were some concerning NEW areas in the lungs. It was decided then to proceed with a biopsy to rule metastasis from the RCC. The results recently came back, and they were nothing short of shocking. It was not mets from the renal cancer, but another primary Small Cell Lung Cancer. For those of you who don’t know, this is a very aggressive rapid spreading cancer, because of this the treatment options are limited. Even with the traditional treatments the prognosis is poor and usually results in recurrence and poor quality of life. This has led us to look into other forms of immunotherapy and treatment options that have shown promising results, unfortunately most of these options are not covered by his insurance.
