Help Michael Emmerich Fight Brain Cancer
I write this with a heavy, strong, and prayer-filled heart. On Thursday, February, 18th, 2021. I got a call from my Dad (48), he was in the hospital. He told me it was confirmed they found a brain tumor. The next morning we had a family meeting with the Doctors. I am my Dad's only child and we have a strong bond. He lives in Minnesota and I've been living in California the last few years so I had to take the family meeting over the phone. His condition escalated quickly. The MRI showed his tumor was aggressive and that it was more than likely a grade 3 or 4. Emergency surgery was then scheduled for Wednesday, February 24th. After hearing this news, I got on the first flight I could and was blessed to spend two full days with my Dad in the hospital leading up to his surgery. Post-surgery, we've received big miracles, little miracles, and extremely hard news to swallow. My Dad was diagnosed with astrocytoma - glioblastoma (GBM) grade 4. His surgery was a success, the doctors confirmed they were able to remove over 90% of the tumor—which was the goal. His doctors at Methodist Hospital (St. Louis Park, MN) have been amazing and he is in great care. My Dad is now recovering and healing in the hospital. We are still in the process of genetic testing to help inform which treatments are the best for his case. We have been told this is an aggressive, very fast-growing, and terminal brain cancer but we have not been given a full prognosis yet. My Dad's a fighter and in positive spirits for his long journey ahead. I plan on short-term or long-term visits in the coming year so that I can help with care-taking and be by his side through this. The money will help cover any unpaid medical costs, along with my Dad's living expenses with him not being able to work. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any donation you feel so led to give. We are both people of strong faith. Thanks again and God bless.Together in the hospital this week.
