Hi Everybody, I’m Bari Alyse Rudin,
As many of you have heard, our friend, veteran writer/comic Mike Dugan, has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer. The cancer cells have migrated to his pelvis, lower spine, and mid-spine. It comes at a cruel moment when he’s been so diligently working to put 'Men Fake Foreplay' back up on stage and editing the second edition of the book.
Mike and I have been friends since we met in 1997 when we were both hired to write and produce on the Keenen Ivory Wayans show in L.A. and he’s remained a dear friend. He’s someone I think of as a brother, and from reading the hundreds of responses on his post about his cancer diagnosis, I see so many others of you to whom Mike has also been important.
There's an arduous journey of treatment ahead with all the attendant ramifications. He begins 18 weeks of chemotherapy next week and has cancelled shows and cleared his calendar - he won’t be able to work for at least the next six months. And besides the unknown medical expenses that are going to come along with his chemo and cancer treatment, he still needs to pay rent, car payment for reliable transportation, food, etc. So I've started this GoFundMe campaign. This will allow Mike to focus on his medical needs and it will help cover living expenses during his treatment.
Won't you please help? It's a good cause. Don't make me pull Sarah McLachlan out on you. Whatever you can do is truly appreciated. And share this page, too!
Thank you - Bari Alyse Rudin
