Hi my name is Lacy and I am fundraising for Mike and his beautiful family. I am reaching out to the community to ask for donations to cover travel expenses so that he can travel to San Francisco for clinical trials which is his last option as Reno has no other treatment available. ◦ Friends and family. The past 3 years have been difficult for Mike and I. Mike was diagnosed with Colon cancer in February of 2020. In May of 2021 we were given the devastating news that Mike’s cancer had metastasized to his lungs. In June of 2021 he retired after 20 years as a Firefighter/Paramedic from the Sparks Fire Department . After trying 4 different Chemotherapy treatments we were told in December of 2022 after more growth of the lung nodules , there are no longer any treatments available. We received a call December 20, 2022 that a Doctor at UCSF agreed to see him for a possible trial. Mike and I traveled to UCSF January 9.2023 and were told there are 2 trials. We decided with whichever trial contacted first, we would start there. On January 19, 2023 he started the process to see if he qualifies for a 4 pill a day trial. This requires traveling 1x a week until March 22 so far. The testing process lasts 2 days each time . The 2nd trial would be immunotherapy taking T cells customize and the inject into the body and possibly be a stay in the hospital up to a month and then stay in San Francisco for an additional 2 months. As you can well imagine this has added even more stress to an already stressful situation. So after much deliberation and advice from friends we have decided to start a go fund me to help. This will help offset the travel and if we end up in trial 2, the living costs of staying there.
