Help Mikayla Hear

In November 2020 Mikayla received her third cancer diagnosis in four years. In November 2021 she finished 11 months of chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy and was declared cancer free! After months of struggling, fighting and being unimaginably sick she was on her way to a full recovery.

Just a few days later she experienced another devastating blow when she completely lost her hearing. Doctors aren’t sure if the cause is due to months of chemo or complications from her Lupus but after hearing back from specialists she has been told it will be permanent. The news is heartbreaking for this young woman who has touched countless lives as a beautiful musician, lover of children and a friend with a listening ear for anyone in need. She has been unable to continue her position as chiropractor assistant at Shuswap Chiropractic and Massage, her ministry at Shuswap Community Church and her pursuit of a masters degree in counselling. Hearing loss has brought a halt to life as she knows it in a way that even cancer has not done.

We want to support Mikayla as she navigates this new normal. We are hoping to raise $8000 to cover the costs of hearing aids that will enable Mikayla to return to work, church and school. It will also allow her to continue her dream of becoming a counselor specifically working with hurting children. For anyone who has heard Mikayla sing you will know how much of a loss it is for anyone to not be able to hear her voice.

Hearing aids will not solve all the issues associated with her severe hearing loss and the next months will be hugely overwhelming in many respects. But hearing aids will return music to Mikayla and to those of us she blesses with it. Hearing aids will return the familiar sounds of loved ones and the sounds of the infectious giggles of the children in her life. Hearing aids will allow Mikayla to return to work, serve her community and continue with her education. Mikayla has touched so many lives and her faith through so many challenges is inspiring. Often times there has not been much that we’ve been able to do to help. Hearing aids are a practical way we can love and support this amazing woman who has given us all so much.
