Help Mikayla Heal:Support her through a life changing injury

Hello everyone,

My name is Madison McKenzie, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my sister-in-law, Mikayla McKenzie.

On March 28th, Mikayla suffered a devastating fall at a local park that resulted in a severe ankle injury. She was taken to the emergency room, where an orthopedic surgeon was brought in to evaluate her condition. Mikayla sustained a trimalleolar fracture of her right ankle along with a dislocation—meaning all three parts of her ankle were broken. In addition, her tibia was fractured and her fibula was shattered.

After resetting the dislocation, doctors stabilized her leg and sent her home with plans for surgery. However, when she went in for surgery the following week, the swelling was too severe to safely perform the full reconstruction she needs. Instead, surgeons placed a temporary screw to stabilize the joint and an external fixator to hold everything in place until a future surgery can be performed.

At this time, Mikayla is facing multiple surgeries and a long, difficult recovery. Her doctor has shared that, even in the best-case scenario, she is looking at a minimum of 12 months of healing—along with ongoing pain and rehabilitation.

If you know Mikayla, you already know how incredible she is. To me, she is not only family but one of my best friends. She is a loving wife and a devoted mother to four beautiful boys, including her two-year-old son.

Because of this injury, Mikayla has been forced to stop nursing her youngest and place him in daycare—something that has been incredibly difficult and far from their normal routine. She has always been the primary caregiver for her children, managing their daily needs, school schedules, and activities, all while working. Now, she is unable to work, care for her children, or even care for herself without significant assistance.

Even simple, everyday tasks have become major obstacles. Their home has multiple steps at both entrances, and essential areas like their laundry are not easily accessible given her condition.

Mikayla and her husband, JD, have faithfully served their community in ministry for over 14 years in the Sand Springs, Sapulpa, and Tulsa areas. They have dedicated their lives to helping others—and now, they need support from their community.

We are asking for help to ease the financial burden this unexpected injury has placed on their family. While JD continues to care for Mikayla and provide for their household, the road ahead is uncertain and will require ongoing support.

We have set an initial goal of $5,000 to help with immediate needs such as medical care, household expenses, and support for their children. As Mikayla’s recovery will be long and require continued treatment, any amount given beyond this goal will go directly toward her ongoing care and their family’s needs.

If you feel led to give, pray, or share this page, it would mean so much to their family. Every bit of support helps lighten the load during this incredibly challenging time.

Thank you for surrounding Mikayla, JD, and their boys with love and support.
