On Monday, our 13-year-old daughter Mikayah was hit by a Jeep just outside our home at a dangerous intersection. She was on her electric scooter and carefully tried to peek around a driveway full of trucks to see if it was safe to cross — but she never saw the jeep coming.
Her friend ran to get me, and I will never forget the moment I saw my little girl lying face down in the intersection, blood pouring from her nose, mouth, and eye, and her leg visibly broken. I called 911, and she was rushed to the ER.
The injuries were severe: she had a compound fracture of her tibia (the bone had broken through the skin), a hairline fracture in her fibula, and a deep cut on her eyelid that required stitches. She was quickly transferred to the pediatric ICU at the children’s hospital. On Tuesday, she underwent major orthopedic surgery to place a permanent rod in her leg.
The pain was excruciating, requiring morphine, fentanyl, and other medications just to manage. It’s been heartbreaking to watch her go through so much, but we are so incredibly thankful that she is alive. God truly had His hand on her that day.
Today, Mikayah came home to begin a long road to recovery that includes physical therapy, follow-up appointments, and the emotional healing that comes after such trauma. We are doing everything we can to help her feel safe, loved, and supported — and we are trusting in God to guide us through this.
We don’t know yet what the full cost of her care will be — 3 days in the ICU, 2 ambulance rides, surgery, medications, specialists, and ongoing therapy — but we know it’s going to be more than we can afford.
Many friends and family have asked how they can help. We’re setting up this GoFundMe to help cover Mikayah’s medical expenses and support her recovery. Every donation, big or small, will make a difference. And if you can’t give, please consider sharing and keeping our daughter in your prayers.
We are overwhelmed with gratitude — for the first responders, the hospital staff, our support system, and above all, God's mercy in sparing our daughter’s life. Your love and kindness mean the world to us.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
With love and faith,
