My name is Mikala Christensen, and I've recently been approved to donate a life-saving kidney to my sister.
My sister, Tiffini, was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) at the age of 12, when I was just 6 years old. We have known most of our lives that she would someday need a kidney transplant. Though we did think it would be much later in life, my response has always been the same. "I will keep one safe for you."
Now, at ages 38 and 32, after years of devastation and struggling with her disease, the day has finally come. My sister is getting my kidney! On June 16th, we will be traveling to Salt Lake City for our procedure.
Here is where you come in. Though the surgery itself is covered under her insurance, the cost of travel, lodging and the missed wages from my time off work for recovery will be my responsibility. My husband will also need to take a short time off to travel with me for surgery.
I am asking for your help in raising $15,000 to ease this stress. This will cover the travel costs to Utah and back to Montana, the week of hotel stay and meals during our stay, the week of wages my husband will miss to accompany me, the 8 weeks missed wages from the time I will have to take from my massage practice, as well as the additional 8 weeks of limited work as I ease back in and fight the fatigue the donation will have on my body.
I appreciate any help, no matter how small. If you are unable to donate, please take the time to share on your social pages. Help me save my sister's life!!
