Hi there! I'm Mikah. I'm a fiber artist from Georgia. Earlier last year, I moved to Maine after coming out as trans back home. Sadly, I was not met with understanding, and for my own safety, I took a leap of faith and moved in with my former best friend. I thought this would be a fresh start, but shortly after arriving, I realized my friend was not who I imagined them to be, and I ended up relocating to Portland. I was laid off from my job in December, and it’s been a struggle to get back on my feet ever since.
Now, I’m facing homelessness. I will be evicted on September 1st, 2025. I have a part-time job, and believe me, I'm grateful, but it just isn't enough for anything beyond absolute bare necessities. The best plan I have right now is to purchase a used vehicle I can live out of until I can secure stable housing. Having a car would not only give me a safe place to sleep, but it would also open up far more full-time and higher-paying employment opportunities. At this point, it’s much easier to find a safe place to park than it is to find a couch to crash on.
Since I’ve just moved here, I don’t have a large local support network to lean on. That’s why I’m asking for help.
Your donations will go toward:
- Purchasing a reliable used vehicle
- Registration, insurance, and basic repairs if needed
- Fuel and essentials during the transition to stable housing
Every bit of support through a donation, sharing this campaign, or purchasing from my Etsy shop helps me move toward safety and stability. If you’re local to Portland, I’ll also be selling at the First Friday Market, and I’d love to see you there.
Thank you for reading, for sharing, and for helping me take the next step toward rebuilding my life.
Mikah
