Help Miguel's family with funeral and transport expenses

I first met Miguel Martinez when he was a teenager in high school. Just a shy, sweet kid who was still learning English and exploring a new love of photography and journalism. I became his mentor. He became family to me and my husband, family and friends over the years, and we remained close all the years he was with us. We were all so proud watching him grow up and become a very talented photographer and an even more wonderful person.

We lost Miguel unexpectedly in a tragic incident that has left his family, friends and colleagues reeling. The family hopes to bring his body back to the Dominican Republic where he was born.

Any additional funds raised will go towards a college scholarship fund to help an aspiring photographer from Camden, New Jersey or the Dominican Republic in honor of Miguel.

Miguel was one of the kindest, most hard working people I have ever known. He had a great love of photography, his family, his girlfriend, his friends. He loved his home of origin the Dominican Republic. He enjoyed skiing, motor cross biking and adventures of all kinds. Please help if you can. Every bit will help.

Conocí a Miguel por la primera vez cuando era joven, todavía en secundaria. Solo un chico tímido y lindo, aprendiendo Inglés y descubriendo una nueva pasión por fotografía y periodismo. Me convertí en su mentora. Él se volvió parte de mi familia, de la de mi esposo, y de nuestros amigos con él pasó de los años. Seguimos siendo muy cercanos durante todos los años que estuvo con nosotros. Todos nos sentíamos muy orgullosos a verlo crecer y desarrollar su fotografía. Era una fotografía muy talentosa y una persona maravillosa.

Perdimos a Miguel de manera inesperada en un trágico incidente que ha dejado devastados a su familia, amigos, y colegas. La familia espera poder llevar a su cuerpo de regreso a la República Dominicana, donde nació. Cualquier dinero adicional que recaudemos se destinará a un fondo de becas para apoyar a un fotógrafo joven de Camden o de la República Dominicana, en honor de Miguel.

Miguel fue una de las personas más agradables y trabajadoras que he conocido. Tenía un gran amor por la fotografía, su familia, su novia, y sus amigos. Amaba su tierra natal, la República Dominicana. Disfrutaba del esquí, montar en motocross, y las adventistas de todo tipo. Por favor, ayuden si pueden. Cada aporte será de gran ayuda.
