En medio de esta batalla, también enfrentamos las profundas deficiencias del sistema de salud en Venezuela, que atravesaba una situación crítica: escasez de insumos, limitaciones en tratamientos adecuados y fallas en la atención oportuna. Esta realidad marcó su proceso médico y hubo negligencias que complicaron su recuperación. Lamentablemente, durante el proceso contrajo una bacteria llamada Pseudomonas, que agravó su estado. Los médicos hicieron todo lo posible; la esperanza era amputar por debajo de la rodilla para facilitar su recuperación. Sin embargo, la infección avanzó y fue necesario amputar por encima de la rodilla.

Desde entonces, Miguel ha demostrado una fortaleza admirable. Aprendió a caminar con prótesis, enfrentó cada obstáculo con valentía y reconstruyó su vida con dignidad. Nunca se ha rendido.

Hoy en día vive en Chile y está enfrentando una nueva dificultad. El encaje de su prótesis ya no se ajusta correctamente y le ha provocado una herida dolorosa. Necesita un reemplazo urgente para poder caminar sin dolor y evitar complicaciones mayores que puedan afectar nuevamente su salud.

A soccer game changed our beloved Miguel Cornieles’ life forever when he was just 19 years old.

What should have been an ordinary local league match turned into a devastating tragedy. A severe tackle at the level of his tibia caused a blockage in his main veins and arteries, leading to extreme swelling and irreversible damage.

What followed were days filled with fear, multiple surgeries, and a desperate fight to save his leg. At the same time, our family was navigating the deep crisis of Venezuela’s healthcare system—shortages of medical supplies, limited treatment options, and delayed care. These challenges complicated his recovery, and during his hospitalization he contracted a dangerous bacterial infection (Pseudomonas), which further worsened his condition.

Doctors did everything they could. The hope was to amputate below the knee to give him a better chance at mobility. But the infection spread, and they were forced to amputate above the knee instead, making his recovery even more difficult.

Since that day, Miguel has shown extraordinary resilience. He learned to walk with a prosthetic leg. He rebuilt his independence. He refused to let this define him.

Today, he is facing another painful obstacle.

The socket of his prosthesis no longer fits properly and has caused a serious wound. Without a new, properly fitted socket, he cannot walk safely and risks further medical complications. He urgently needs a replacement to prevent additional damage and regain his mobility.

We are not asking for pity. We are asking for support and hope.

Miguel is a hardworking, determined man who simply wants to live without constant pain—to walk with stability, dignity, and confidence again. He lives in Chile and the cost of a new custom socket, specialized adjustments, and medical care is beyond what our family can afford right now. That is why we are turning to you.
