Help Miguel Recover and Settle Medical Bills

Hi. My name is Lisa Brown and I have set up a GoFundMe on behalf of Miguel Pepin. Miguel recently relocated to Florida to start a new life in the Sunshine State. On December 15th, 2025, he was returning home from his first day at his brand new job as floor manager at Oceans 234 in Deerfield Beach when he was struck by a pickup truck as he was walking across Hillsboro Blvd. Miguel sustained fractures to his clavicle, ribs, hip, and sacrum, as well as a compression injury to his sternum and a head laceration that required 20 staples. Thankfully, he survived, but he was hospitalized for 10 days at Broward Health North's Trauma Unit. His injuries required that he be given 3 blood transfusions as well, and a needle aspiration of his left lung due to a build-up of fluid in his left lung from the impact.

Thankfully, Miguel is a strong-willed person with a positive disposition and in general good health, so his progress has been steady and the prognosis is for a full recovery. Unfortunately, the person responsible for the accident has no Bodily Injury insurance beyond the state-mandated PIP coverage of $10K. The hospital bill for his stay in the Trauma Unit was in excess of $109K. Because Miguel had recently relocated and just started a new job, he is uninsured and now he is also unemployed. The driver of the vehicle that struck Miguel has no assets to speak of, so there is essentially nothing that can be recovered from him. Broward Health was able to provide Miguel with financial relief by way of a grant, but there is still an outstanding balance of $25K which Miguel is responsible for.

Miguel has suffered catastrophic injuries, immeasurable pain and suffering, and has several months of physical therapy ahead of him - and now he has $25K in medical expenses that have been billed to him. He is temporarily unable to work due to a lack of mobility, so this debt is yet another devastating burden to carry while he recovers.

This is very clearly a terrible situation and we are asking for your support to help Miguel settle the debt so that he can focus on his recovery and move on with his life without a financial burden. Anything that you can give would be greatly appreciated.
