Help Miguel Moore graduate
My name is Miguel Moore and I am an Aerospace Engineering student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, I decided to follow my dream of moving to America and pursuing this fascinating career four years ago, after visiting the Boeing assembly line in Everett, WA, and being mesmerized by the amazing technology behind such amazing aircraft.
Starting this new chapter in my life not only meant an immense personal sacrifice, but it also represented a huge cost, especially coming from Latin America. I was able to secure the funds for my first years by putting together my own personal savings as well as my family savings, combined with contributions from close friends. However, the dire economic situation of my home country, heavily marked by high inflation and hefty taxes, together with the coronavirus pandemic, has made it extremely hard to secure the funds for my last semester of college.
During my years at Embry-Riddle I have been awarded the Volusia-Flagler Rainbow Alliance Scholarship (2018) and the NGPA/United Airlines Tech Ops Scholarship (2019) for my academic performance as well as my role as a student leader on campus and my contributions to the LGBTQ+ student community, for which I am extremely grateful. Having presided all three LGBTQ+ student-led organizations (P.R.I.D.E.!, oSTEM –which I also co-founded– and NGPA), as well as closely working with Housing and Residence Life, Health Services, Counseling Center, Dean of Students, Diversity and Inclusion, Faith and Spirituality, and Philanthropy to better support the needs of our community has been one of the most satisfying and fulfilling experiences I’ve had during my college life, and I am very appreciative of the support I have always received from staff and faculty. In addition to my involvement on campus, I also volunteer as Regional Coordinator for oSTEM, Inc., overseeing student chapters in the states of FL, GA, AL, SC, NC, MS, LA, AK and TN.
Besides my academic and campus life, I am also a classically trained pianist (I have been studying piano since the age of five), having played in multiple recitals in my hometown in Buenos Aires, as well as having recently participated in two recitals which took place in Orlando, FL. Some of my performances can be found in the following YouTube links: https://youtu.be/16BpzIU1Rtk and https://youtu.be/XLhChwgrnGk
Despite the aforementioned awards and the assistance I have received in the past, I currently find myself in a critical economic situation, and I am terribly afraid that if I cannot secure the funds, all the effort, time and sacrifice I have made during these past four years would go to waste, being only 15 credits shy of obtaining my diploma. It is my greatest desire to graduate and have the opportunity to step foot in the industry and represent Embry-Riddle to the best of my ability.
I sincerely appreciate your time and any help you may be able to provide.
