Supporting our friend and Fanward co-founder, Miguel Calderon, who just got diagnosed with Stage 2 Bladder Cancer
Our friend and co-founder of Fanward, Miguel Calderon just got confirmed diagnosis of Stage 2 Bladder Cancer. Me and my wife Olivia are doing this fundraiser for our friend with his permission, but he was reluctant to give it. He, like me, always wants to portray strength and "being there" for others.
Now it's his turn for us to be there for him.
If you’ve seen any Fanward videos, Miguel edited them for you to enjoy. He's been the main Fanward editor since we started this business.
He has a wife, Stephanie (who is also a dear friend), and 2 girls – Adaliah and Eliana (16 and 12). He’s been our friend for over 20 years, and he’s been our co-founder of our company for the entire 7+ years we’ve been in business.
This journey for Miguel began about a year ago when he started bleeding when he used the restroom, and he began making appts to try to figure out what was going on.
Over the past few months it’s been a series of events that started with finding a polyp on his bladder, then getting it checked. Then they scheduled a surgery to take it out. It took a couple of months to schedule the surgery, and since it didn’t grow very much, the doctor’s didn’t think it was cancer.
Once they did the biopsy, the doctors were very surprised when the labs came back and reported cancer. It was a day none of us will forget around here.
They did another series of checks, and they found it in the wall of the muscle, which means it’s MIBC (Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer). This means it’s Stage 2.
The next stage (Stage 3) would be through the muscle, and spreads rapidly from there, so he has to make some difficult decisions within the next 3-4 weeks about treatment paths before this spreads any further.
We are doing this GoFundMe because any path he chooses will not be easy, there are a lot of expenses that will be incurred with any path chosen, and all paths take a major toll on his body.
Years ago, when Miguel lived in Ohio, he worked in a car wheel manufacturing plant. He worked there for 10 years supporting his family before he started working with us. Apparently, men who work in those wheel factories have a 1 in 3 chance of getting bladder cancer.
Right now the doctors are recommending removing his bladder and doing chemo, there are other paths that the doctors could take, like immunotherapy or radiation…all of these paths have one thing in common. They put his body through a lot, and the financial cost is high in many areas.
Miguel, and his wife Stephanie and their 2 girls live very modestly. They have a small 2 bedroom apartment here in the suburbs of Los Angeles. They drive one car, and they work hard to provide for their girls.
This journey is stacking a financial burden on that makes everything much harder.
If you can support this journey, then please know that we (me and Olivia) and their family are forever grateful and we all know that when we support and give, it’s always paid back to us in many many ways over.
Thank you for reading this, and thank you for being part of this journey.
