Two short days after his beautiful wedding ceremony located in a hidden oasis and meditation garden, Miguel Lanzagorta collapsed after a sudden rupture of a congenital brain malformation that has left him fighting for his life in a coma. These hemorrhages have required two operations on the brain and round the clock care in the ICU. While the neurosurgeon that performed those operations is pleased with his progress so far, stating that most people would not have even survived the initial shock, he also cautions that there are many steps yet to be taken, and that his primary goal right now is just to get him to open his eyes. That level of care is not inexpensive, and with his medical insurance nearing its limit, Miguel’s family is facing the difficult decision on how to continue his care so that he can have a fighting chance to rejoin his loved ones once again.
While everybody hopes that each new day will be the day that he opens up his eyes, Miguel’s struggle will not end the day that he emerges from his coma. Unfortunately the trauma to his brain is very serious, and he will inevitably need aggressive rehabilitation and a whole lot of physical, emotional, and financial support. The donated money will not only go to the mounting medical bills while he is in the hospital, but to help plan for life after the hospital. The goal is to assist Miguel in living a long life surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Some of you may know him as Doctor Lanzagorta from Sanoviv. Others affectionately call him Miguelito chiquito, or Mike, Uncle Miguel, or just plain Grandpa Miguel as he is known by his three little grandchildren. Kiemi, his 5-year old granddaughter, has drawn him cards and asks daily if he has woken up yet, but however you know him, chances are that at some point he has touched you with his kind heart, or put you at ease during a difficult time with a peaceful meditation. He may have strengthened your will through thoughtful prayer, uplifted your spirits with his passionate conviction, or possibly taught you something new with his curious, scientific mind.
If you don’t know him personally, just know that he has devoted his life to helping others. He has served in the US Armed Forces. He has studied as a monk in a Catholic monastery. He has made a difference in the lives of countless people. As an orator, he has lectured all over the world, even moving people to tears with his powerful messages of hope, but to his 3 little grandchildren, he just makes them laugh hysterically with puppet shows or by letting them climb all over him to give him big hugs. He’s simply Grandpa Miguel to them, and now HE NEEDS YOUR HELP. He needs your positive thoughts, your prayers, and your good will. Help us get Miguel back to his family that loves him so much…

Apenas un par de días después de su hermosa ceremonia de matrimonio en un oasis de meditación, Miguel Lanzagorta sufrió la ruptura de una malformación congénita cerebral, la cual lo ha dejado luchando por su vida en estado de coma. Estas hemorragias han requerido dos neurocirugías, y por el momento su condición depende de cuidados intensivos indefinidos. Mientras que el neurocirujano que lo operó mantiene optimismo de su avance hasta hoy, recordándonos que a la mayoría de las personas en este estado se les hubiese hecho difícil sobrevivir el primer impacto, también nos advierte que aún le falta un largo camino para su recuperación. Su meta ahora, es lograr que abra los ojos y despierte. El nivel de cuidados que se requiere es costoso y su seguro de gastos médicos está por llegar a su límite. La familia de Miguel se encuentra en la difícil situación de decidir cómo proveer los cuidados necesarios para que Miguel pueda tener la oportunidad de regresar con sus seres queridos.
Aunque todos esperamos ansiosamente que el día de mañana será el día en el que abrirá sus ojos, la prueba no termina en el momento en el que salga del estado de coma. Desafortunadamente, el trauma a su cerebro es muy serio, e inevitablemente va a requerir de un plan intensivo de terapias de rehabilitación, y todo el apoyo físico, emocional, y económico que le podamos brindar. Cualquier cantidad donada en su nombre, se irá no solo a las cuentas de hospitalización, pero para establecer un plan concreto para su vida cuando salga del hospital. La meta es ayudar a Miguel a vivir una larga vida, rodeado de su familia y seres queridos.
