Help Miguel Alvarez During Chemotherapy Treatments
Donation protected
Hi, everyone. I am creating this GoFundMe for my Father, Miguel Alvarez to try to help him financially during his chemotherapy treatments. My Father was diagnosed with ‘AL Amyloidosis’ on April 23, 2024 and began chemotherapy a week after this diagnosis. The current plan is chemotherapy once a week for 6 months, and then chemotherapy once a month for 2 years after that. As of now, he is 10 weeks in out of the first 24 weeks of treatment. 14 more weeks and he will go to monthly treatments! Along with this diagnosis, my Father was also diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure in October of 2023. Congestive Heart Failure also leads him to have Pleural Effusion (fluid in his lungs that they have to drain) every few months, along with stage 3 kidney disease. Needless to say, my Father has really been going through it medically.
My Father has always worked and has NEVER called off — until recently with everything going on medically. With that being said, the income my Father provides for my parents has been cut drastically because of the time my Father has had to take off from work. He was approved for FMLA and he is able to take up to 3 days off a week, but typically he only takes off 1 day for his actual chemotherapy treatment day. Lately, he’s been having to take 2 days off because of how treatments make him feel the day after. Even with the approved FMLA, he only receives 70% of his base pay on those days. My parents are finding themselves in a very tight predicament with this huge loss in pay. In my opinion he shouldn’t even be working during this, but he has no choice.
I moved back with my parents to help in any way that I can — but with my own personal bills, I’m finding it impossible to help them in the capacity that they need. My Father has quite literally never asked for anything in his life, especially from me. Not only did he ask for me to move back to help during this time, but he asked if I could make this GoFundMe, so I know that he really needs the help.
Any amount can help, even if it’s just $1. Any money donated will go directly to my Father’s account and will help towards his bills, medical bills and parking & gas money driving to the hospital every week.
If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this GoFundMe to spread the word!
Thank you all so much!
I will post weekly updates here on his treatment days and update everyone with how he is doing!
Here is a great article on his diagnosis of AL Amyloidosis: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/15718-amyloidosis-al-amyloid-light-chain
Thank you so much again!!
